KerryParticipant
I disagree. I would guess that part of the reason most of us welcomed and now enjoy the Powys Space:1999 novels is because it felt like there were many more stories in that universe that needed to be told.
A new series could, if done well, not only honor the past series, but fulfill the original goals of Space:1999. Though I felt the recent V redo was less than it could’ve been, I thought the BSG remake was quite good. Not perfect, no. But I think we can probably all agree that the original BSG series was far from perfect too. And it had a very short run.
Really, it is like arguing original Star Trek versus Next Generation. Can you honestly say that STNG was a bad idea???
KerryParticipant
Who knows, maybe Jace Hall will want tie-in novels or novelizations…
Yeah, I would think anyone who writes for Space: 1999 now would welcome the possibilty of having another outlet for their talents.
KerryParticipant
Just to clarify based upon what I have been reading. Space 2099 with Nick Tate and Juliet Landau is a fan backed project
Interesting…because if you go to the website for the new project, Nick Tate is right there front and center.
Anyway, I see no reason to panic over the models yet. The re-do of Battlestar Galatica had both new models and the old. Maybe they can do the same thing?
KerryParticipantHold the phone…I just read something the other day about the 2099 fan folks planning a new series, and it sounded like Nick Tate and Juliet Landau were involved. Is this something different…or what?
KerryParticipantThat’s great, Tex. 😆 Thanks for sharing.
And Merry Christmas all.
KerryParticipantWhat a cool diversion. Thanks for sharing!
KerryParticipantLooking forward to it! What’s the status of Phoenix, BTW? Haven’t heard anything in awhile…
KerryParticipantYes, the pull of this series for me has never been the technology or psuedo-science. It is the idea of a small colony of humans drifting through space, at the whim of science and/or spirit, and barely able to defend against either. The feeling of isolation you might feel in your treehouse as a kid, even if your friends are there with you: us against the universe with whatever we can scrap together. A new mystery and threat every week. Claustrophopia, but in the vastness of space.
Seriously, there are feelings from that show that have never been fully duplicated by another. Star Trek: Voyager tried in some ways. (Similar premise, right?) And Battlestar Galatica had some of it too…but nobody has really reproduced it since. Except the novels, of course. 🙂
KerryParticipant
I love what Powys is doing and where they’re going, but it’d be nice to have the astronomy correct along the way
Except we’re by definition living in a universe here where astronomy and physics gets routinely ignored or twisted…I mean, who are we kidding? 😉
KerryParticipantIt is just lull as the moon moves between systems/episodes.
KerryParticipantI’ve always been impressed with the way Lulu packages books. I remember thinking they were better than Amazon in that regard. Sorry to hear that isn’t a universal experience.
KerryParticipantTis a beauty.
KerryParticipantWell, after reading most of Chasing the Cyclops and then seeing these posts, I’d say Bill and Mateo did what they set out to do with Omega/Alpha–brought some controversy to the Space 1999 universe. 🙂
KerryParticipantOne great advantage of POD–you can fix ’em as you go along. Much better than having thousands of printed typos in boxes.
KerryParticipantSounds great. Thanks for the info, slindvall. Have to add it my list.
