Hey! Tex isn’t the only one who pops in here now and again to see what (if anything) is going on (although facebook does seem to be THE place for updates about the Powys books) :)
Indeed – I also pop in from time to time 🙂

But alas, I do not do – and never will do – Facebook….

    Regards to all.

Well, I haven’t even been able to make a start on my copy yet…! 🙁

My two copies arrived here (UK) today.

Look forward to reading the book, although it will probably have to wait until I’ve got some time off work so that I can properly concentrate on it. Well done for getting Babs Bain to pen a foreword… 😉

Alas, I’m going to indulge in some Lulu bashing again, though. The quality of paper seems to have taken a dip. Also the printing of the Space: 1999 logo on the cover (and the Powys logo on the spine) is a bit off – not centred properly) and the cutting of the cover could have been better. The worst turnout of all the Lulu-printed books so far, sadly.

I should add that in my opinion I rather think that any praise for Survival should probably go to the editors rather than Brian Ball. I’ve never been convinced he’s watched more than a couple of episodes of the series 😉

I don’t know, but I have a strange feeling somehow that – no matter whether there is still demand or not – that’s the last we’ve seen of Survival…..

Like you though, I bought two copies. As I always do. Bwaahahahah!
Lulu has been extremely challenging of late — apparently, the standard paperback size that we’ve used (and even 6 X 9 books) aren’t being printed internationally like they have in the past — we can’t get our same ISBN numbers and distribution options as we have previously which is REALLY frustrating. But, continuing to try to get a straight answer from lulu.

I’d say steer clear of expedited shipping for international orders at the very least until we hear more.

    I’ll keep everyone posted.

    Thanks for the update Bill.

My concern is that the books will be just too expensive for many people outside of the US. I’ll buy any Space: 1999 novel pretty much automatically, but even I balked when I saw how much it’s now going to cost if they’re only printed in the US.

Oh well – not much that can be done probably. Looking forward to the books anyway (when I eventually get them!) 😉

Just as an afterthought, I must say that the covers for the books have been fantastic.

Looking forward to the book. (Less so to Lulu picking my pocket on this occasion…)

Codes don’t seem to work for the UK 🙁

    Also….”Only ships from North America…”???

I’ve ordered two copies but expedited shipping would have costed a whopping £63, so I’ve opted for standard shipping so the cost is a more manageable (but still expensive) £45. None of the discount codes seem to work.

Looking forward to the book but why isn’t it available from the UK like the others have been?

For me, Derek Wadsworth’s score was the absolute highpoint of the second series.

Considering how poor some episodes were (The Beta Cloud springs readily to mind…) I think he single handedly made some of them actually worth sitting through just for the music alone.

Incidentally, regarding JKM’s ‘Exploring Space: 1999’….I was a bit puzzled at the time about the inclusion of so many comparisons to ST:TNG. However, in the last year I’ve watched – for the first time – the first five seasons of ST:TNG (colour me impressed too) and I can certainly see now several parallels between the two shows. I’d like to see a revised edition of the book one day (there are some factual errors too as I recall), but overall not a bad book at all. And, when it was first published, quite a new departure in terms of the way it sought to be an analysis/critique of the series rather than just another (yawn) episode guide.

Sure, there was a lot I disgreed with (THE DORCONS the best Year 2 episode?!! Really?!!!?) but differing opinions are the spice of life, are they not?

Two copies ordered here too 🙂
Incidentally I enjoyed Gordon Moriguchi’s interview too. Looking forward to the book.

I wouldn’t mind a reprint of Eternity Unbound because the whole saga is one of my favourites (with RESURRECTION being my favourite 1999 novel as published by Powys….). But it would be nice to have it as a regular sized paperback so it fits nicely on the shelf with the others.

    John,

I’m sorry to hear this – he had a good and long life though, and his work will live on! I hope you can take comfort from this.

I corresponded with him many years ago and still have the letter. Always loved his Space: 1999 novels and – in particular – Android Planet, which I read and re-read many times (even more so with the new Powys version!). I was always disappointed that he never got the opportunity to write another original other than Android Planet and Phoenix of Megaron (the latter which I imported from the USA at huge expense some years after it was first published there…).

RIP. And my deepest condolences to you and the rest of his family.

    Simon Morris.
Sorry to rub it in, but I got my books today! ONE day after the shipping notice (which I suspect was not really accurate).
Lucky you!

I am away from home for 3 weeks, and I have been advised that my package from Lulu (2 copies of Children of the Gods) arrived about an hour after I’d left home……

    Grrrr!

    Thumbs up from me too.

I wasn’t awfully surprised to see ‘vibrators’ (as in weapons) replaced in this edition by ‘sonic lances’ 😆

One or two typos but nothing that spoiled the flow – Megaron was ‘Megaton’ at one point, ISTR.

    Well done everyone!

    Simon
