excellent! My mouse finger has started twitching in anticipation of clicking the BUY button on Lulu…
and a full wrap cover. very nice. that cool blue coloring makes it one of my favorite covers by farPatrick ZimmermanParticipanttook me a few tries to find the right book (since there are several out there) but finally found the one she has her face in.
cool beans!!
One very important question, is the title of this book “The Whispering Sea” or is it “The Whispering Seas” as I have seen it written somewhere recently?
Both JKM’s blog and Mateo’s post say “Sea” – so I’ll go with singular.JKM blog

What surprised me about the list was the fact that there was no mention of that truly DIRE tv series “Lost in Space”. Virtually every episode is utter drivel. Also, I was surprised that Season 2 of The Next Generation was voted number one!
I believe you missed the point of the article, which was not “what is the worst season of an SF show”, but
“what is the worst season of an SF show that started good and then went bad”
ergo – the first season of the show can’t be the clunker by definition.
also, something like Lost in Space won’t be in there as every year was the same silliness, it didn’t degrade from one season to the next.TNG season 2 may be questionable, but compared to season 3-7, it certainly has many faults, like Pulaski, abuse of the holo deck, and had that awful clip episode.
A show that should have made the list, and one that reminds me of what happened with 1999 year 2, is War of the Worlds season 2. A new producer came in and trashed the show – killed of characters and brought in new ones, changed the sets, changed the music, and completely threw out any continuity or reference to the first season. Showed no respect for what had come before.
Patrick ZimmermanParticipantan Alpha Christmas. I like it! :silly:
At least this one showed people from so far in the future that it didn’t really matter but it still troubled me, why would you travel back and meddle in your own past to possibly destroy your own existence? If that was the case why not go back and stop Breakaway and save everyone?
Perhaps you are confusing CotG with another story? In the outline I’ve read on the Catacombs, no one goes back in time to ‘save’ anyone. In fact, it’s just the opposite – an alien has gone back in time to kill all the Alphans (i.e. all of humanity). And Post-Breakaway is the perfect time to do it too, as most or all of the human race is already dead on the Earth and there are just the ~300 Alphans on the Moon to kill off to finish the job.Patrick ZimmermanParticipantto me, this is all good news.
because, quite frankly, from the scrap of outline that I’ve read of the Children of the Gods story, I thought it was bunk and I don’t think I would have liked the episode. It has a mildly interesting twist to it, but it’s a story I don’t particularly care for. At all.
Partly, as was pointed out, because I’ve seen the ‘all powerful being’ story done one too many times already, but really, it’s because the style of the story is one that I find particularly boring (the ‘powered’ toying with the ‘weaker’). “It’s a Good Life”, “Charlie X” and their ilk are just not my thing. Yawn.
To have this thing re-architected sounds like a very good thing indeed.Patrick ZimmermanParticipantjust did a spot check on the website this morning, and noticed that the first 2 episodes of Season 2 are now out there and online ready for viewing. Looks like it went live on August 31?
Today has just become Millennium Apocalypse day for me – I’ll be watching all of Season 1 and then the first 2 of season 2. I’m taking the day off work today as a “sick day”, so this will work out nicely.Patrick ZimmermanParticipantmooncadet wrote:
THE EARTH DOESN’T RISE AND SET ON THE MOON!
mooncadet, you really shouldn’t become so obsessed or upset with these small errors or inaccuracies. just go with the flow and enjoy the storyoh, wait, who am I kidding?
these botched items bug the crap out of me.
I never finished up my reviews of all the stories in Shepard’s Moon, but that item made me roll my eyes in frustration and made my list for that book.
one among many.
I love what Powys is doing and where they’re going, but it’d be nice to have the astronomy correct along the wayPatrick ZimmermanParticipantmateo wrote:

just .99 cents for a track? less than a penny for a song is quite a deal! B)Patrick ZimmermanParticipantblatham wrote:
Weigh in, folks — who wants hardcovers? We can also reprint the individual books as hardcovers (but for the shorter books?).
I have zero interest in hardcover editions, other than the Year 1 and Year 2 omnibus books.
Patrick ZimmermanParticipantI finally got around to asking Lulu about their return policy last week, and they were incredibly quick to respond and totally took care of things. I just had to send them a couple of pictures to show the problems – the curvature of the book, and a large chip in the cover on the back of the book. As soon as they saw those, they apologized and shipped off a new copy of Android Planet which I received today.
And it showed up packaged extremely well – in a styrofoam sleeve shrink wrapped to cardboard and sent in those great flat boxes that I’ve gotten all my other Lulu books in. Fantastic all around and I gave back great feedback for their response. The interesting thing is that now I have a copy of AP that has the newer ITV logo on the back, whereas the first copy has the old ITV logo. Guess I’ll have to keep them both!
and this new ITV logo reminds me of the star child from 2001 for some reason. which is kind of cool considering 1999 is a child of 2001 to some extent
Patrick ZimmermanParticipantI just got back from working Mission Control for a pretty thrilling launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery on her final voyage into space and got inspired to post one of my tech-geek pics from when I visited the VLA out in New Mexico.
Endeavour will have its final launch in April, Atlantis this summer, and then that’s it. No more Shuttle. Attachments: -
