Nertz. I seem to be suffering from a slight case of Zack’s Syndrome.

There are several things that make fan-fiction unreadable for me and these are the things that I will spend a little time on.
– Mary Sue syndrome.
– Unicorns.
– Girly frock syndrome.
Unfortunately I seem to keep encountering these things. I have half read a lot of fan-fiction stories and I’m beginning to understand why Matteo and co don’t want any unsolicited material from any one.
Hear, hear! Well spoken, Bruce!

Zack’s examples are a sample of why I gave up on reading fan fic.

SHAZBOT!

It’s Mork from Ork. Orson was the long-suffering superior he’d report to at the end of the episodes.

Even if intermittent, at least we’ve been getting transmissions of some kind from Alpha.
But if Children of the Gods was a story about a face-hugging alien that deposited something down your throat that eventually burst through your chest and it was loose on Moonbase Alpha, that’s a story best left untold – because it’s already been told (just not on Moonbase Alpha).
Yes, it was told by A. E. van Vogt, and was set on board the Space Beagle.

>Originality, paging Mr. O’Bannon.< Relax, Mr.L. We all know that Johnny Byrne's works are in good hands. Tex (though it would be cool if you could put his original story idea in the back as an appendix)

in reply to: BREAKAWAY DAY 2011 #2233

I’m gonna put on some Barry Gray and finally organize my Gerry Anderson Library (a large portion of which is of the Alphan variety.)

Then I’ll watch Breakaway again for the umpteenth time.

in reply to: Powysverse Compendium Update #2114

There’s another way y’all could go with this.

Everyone here remembers the Moonbase Alpha Technical Manual, yah? (Hands up–who else cut out the coupon in back to send in for “future updates”?)

The PVC could be issued in a similar format, as three-hole-punched pages in a binder, allowing for update pages to be added at a later date.

It could come either in it’s own binder, or as a massive stack of pages so we can choose our own binders. The monstrously creative out there could even come up with cover designs to drop into the outer plastic covers certain binders come with.

This will eliminate the need to purchase a whole other book, with duplicate material, every time updated info is in need of issuance.

Either that, or you offer the book in both hardcover and softcover formats. The miracle of print-on-demand has made such an option possible.
