:silly: But…but You are the Emperor of the Powys Media Galaxy. The Eternal Bringer of Space:1999 Uber-Joy. Certainly You have lowly minions to do your bidding, right? Let those lowly minions do the normal everyday people things…like eating and sleeping. Both eating and sleeping are overrated anyways. Evolutionary circumstances have made You the Decider and Provider of what new Alphan adventures we will consume. And buddy-boy we – the lowly masses – we are ready to consume! :woohoo:

Space:1999-hating Trekkie biker nuns hijacked Powys Media…that’s why there is no Phoenix Of Megaron yet for non-convention going customers.

Today is the day to order Phoenix Of Megaron!

Today shall hence forth be known as the day that Phoenix Of Megaron went on sale!

    (you guessed it…silence and crickets)

Guess you guys did not get that memo, eh? I was to be delightfully surprised in the morning of Sept 18, 2012 with a new Space:1999 novel to order…(tapping my toe in impatient disdainful manner)

I’m really excited about this here brand-new Space:2099 television series. As long as it stays in essence true to the basic look and gothic tone of the classic series. Some ways the new series might improve on the old series are…

    1. Update the plot device that sends the moon away from Earth orbit. How?

    A. Deep underground – perhaps at the center of the moon – Moonbase Alpha techs are experimenting with a advanced new particle accelrator – one that can form gravitational singularties. An accident or act of terrorism causes the moon to warp away.

    2. Eagle design changes?

    A. Replace the bell-shaped thrusters with a more angular style thrusters.

    B. The aft end should be higher and a gradual slope to the nose cone – thus giving the new Eagle a vague souped up hot-rod feel.

    C. The back landing gear pods should be larger than the front landing gear pods. The poster does suggest that the front landing gear pods extend forward with a VTOL like blower.

    3. Personal hand laser guns

    A. Keep the classic shape, but bulk them up slightly with detachable components (eye scopes, battery units). Perhaps a bit like some of the ‘weirding way’ sonic guns seen in David Lynch’s Dune movie.

    4. Uniforms

    A. Make more disctinction between the clothing worn by scientists, engineers, military officers and civilians.

    5. Moonbase Alpha population number

    A. Perhaps instead of a mere 311 people – increase the population to 3011.

    6. Moonbase Alpha design

    A. If they do increase the size of the Alpha population then the base likely will be much larger. Perhaps the size of NY city.

    7. Ranks and roles

    A. Moonbase Alpha is not a starship. The main characters should be more diverse in careers. More like the leaders of a city with its various departments run by civilians. a group of military officers would be in place to counter terrorism or rebel attacks by rogue Martian / Jovian colonies.

    B. Koenig should be a mayor or governor instead of a millitary rank.

Well that’s my 2 credits worth of thinking for today…

    😉

Thought I’d add my 2 cents worth since we’re traversing down our collective memory lanes…

My first brushes with Space:1999 were with my older cousin’s toy Eagle spaceship. He had that big Mattel produced Eagle Transporter. That toy was the best thing in sci-fi toys till the coming of the Milllenium Falcon, TIE starfighters, X-wing starfighters, Colonial Vipers and Cylon Raiders. I cringe everytime I think of it’s fate. My cousin decided to perform his own SFX with the Eagle. He and his friends used firecrackers on the poor toy. Then to add insult to injury they crashed the Eagle into a raging bondfire! My cousin and his friends had an ‘on again-off again’ fight over which had more merit Space:1999 or classic Star Trek. I was too young to really understand the parallels and contrasts between the two shows back then. However just a few years after 1976 I remember getting into schoolyard brawls over which was better Star Wars or classic Battlestar Galactica (big grin). So I guess pissing contests happen with each generation, eh?

For years I searched for the Mattel produced Eagle to add to my growing sci-fi collection. Or barring finding that particular treasure I’d settle for Dinky produced Eagles. Never found any. Then in the summer of 1987 I was in Colorado and found the Airfix produced model kits of the Eagle and the Hawk! As you might imagine I coughed up the money and they were mine! Mine! MINE! Then fast-forward to 2005. I finally got to watch all of the Space:1999 episodes. Up to this point I only viewed the Destination Moonbase Alpha compilation movie. Then I attended the Wonderfest convention held in Louisville, KY. There was a booth dedicated to Gerry Anderson and Irwin Allen products. Again I coughed up the money and bought the nifty super-accurate Eagle variants produced by Product Enterprise Limited. Oh and the UFO Interceptor as well. Pure joy!

Then came Powys Media with NEW Space:1999 literature! GEEKGASM! Oh and let us not forget Blam Ventures getting ready to launch both digital Space:1999 comic books and traditional Space:1999 graphic novels this year! I think we’re on the brink of a mainstream rediscovery of Space:1999. Might a Space:1999 reboot film or TV show be in the cards? The reboot of Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica have paved the way. Oh and pre-production work is underway on a new UFO movie. So I’d say yes Space:1999 is likely to make its way to the small or big screen – reinvented. If not well hey we’ve got Powys Media and Blam Ventures to give us Space99ers our collective fix, eh?

Is Phoenix Of Megaron about to go on sale? Kinda thought it was on target for the end of March, but I was wrong. What is the status of The Whispering Sea? Is there a book cover picture for that one yet? Inquiring minds want to know… 😉

Mine is ordered. Now I have four Space:1999 novels to read after I finish Harry Turtledove’s Settling Accounts:The Grapple!

Geez, I’d better get off this computer and start reading. But hey that’s OK. By the time I finish Turtledove and the four Space:1999 novels The Phoenix Of Megaron will be ready…

    right?
