I found the review I mentioned. Here’s a link to it for anyone interested in reading it: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/307088/htf-blu-ray-review-space-1999-season-one-highly-recommended.

I read a very detailed review of both the US and UK versions of Year 1 on Blu-ray after they both came out (can’t remember where, but it was a very good and detailed review). For the most part, the two sets are nearly identical, and the episodes on both sets were taken from the same high def masters. There are some minor extras missing from the US version, but they are fairly insignificant. Most of the bonus features are intact on the US set. It is a magnificent set, and a collector’s dream. I hope they do as great a job remastering Year 2 and coming up with so many exceptional extras.

Verrrry cool cover! Ken Scott really is a genius. The Powys Book covers keep getting better and better. I, for one, cannot wait to add this one to my collection.

Good morning, everyone. I, too, would like to wish everyone in the Space: 1999 community out there a very joyous Christmas and holiday season, no matter your religion. May the new year bring everyone peace and happiness.

I just noticed that it was Christmas Day last year that I discovered the newly resurrected Powys site and signed up for this forum. It has been a fun year, and I have really enjoyed reading others’ words and passions about this little British nugget in the rough we know as Space: 1999. I loved this program back in the 1970s, and even went to the very first convention back in 1978 in Columbus, Ohio. I was 17 at the time and I remember riding a Greyhound bus all night from my hometown in Wisconsin to attend. It was so cool meeting Martin Landau, Nick Tate, Barry Gray, David Prowse (a monster in one episode, but of course better known by that time as Darth Vader) and so many other people who shared my passion for this quirky little science fiction show.

Of course, time moves on and over the years I moved on to other things — college, a career, a family, and all of life’s little ups and downs. Most of my collectibles and books were lost or sold over the course of many moves. Space: 1999 sort of faded away, but I never forgot it. Then, low and behold, 30-some years later I discover a series of books from some outfit called Powys Media that had an ambitious plan to release a new series of original Space: 1999 novels. It really excited me, but by the time I accidently discovered the old website, the company had appeared to have gone belly up. Ah well, I thought, nice try, but who besides me even remembers that old, kooky show. Fortunately, I was wrong about both Powys Media and Space: 1999.

As I wrote earlier, I discovered Powys was back on Christmas Day one year ago. I was playing around on the internet, checking out things that still hold my interest and came across the new site, with a promise of new books and Powys’ biggest upcoming year yet. The last year has been amazing for me — rediscovering and rekindling my fondness for one of my favorite shows from my youth. Even better, I have seen the number of people joining this website’s forum grow since last Christmas, and it was incredible to know there are so many people out there who not only still remember Space: 1999, but still embrace it passionately enough to continually post about it here. I have loved reading what everyone has had to say these past 12 months, as much as I have enjoyed getting and reading the entire line of Powys’ books. I have been lucky enough to locate all of the early books (at reasonable prices), and have gotten everything released this year.

So, as grateful as I am to Mateo, Bill, and everyone else involved in writing and producing this great line of books and audiobooks (and I am very grateful for this labor of love all of you have put into this for so many years), I also want to thank everyone who has joined and posted to these forums. Even more than the books alone could do, all of you have helped me rediscover a big part of my youth I long thought was gone.

Thank you, and blessed wishes for a beautiful holiday season and prosperous 2011.

Jeez, I take a couple of days to take my granddaughters to Disney World for the weekend and look what happens… Another new book from Powys!!! This caps off a pretty spectacular year for all of you (and also for all of us Space: 1999 fans). Great job!!! I’m looking forward to reading it.
There is another copy currently available on eBay.co.uk – I picked one up several hours ago, but apparently the seller had more than one.
Thank you, Pat, for posting this. I went to the site and bought the other copy as soon as I read your post. I have been looking for this book for quite some time. :woohoo:

Now if I can find a copy of Fanderson’s version of “Earthfall” without spending the very high cost of joining Fanderson, I’d be even happier.

You make it sound so simple, but I know a LOT of effort has already gone into this (mostly on your part it sounds like) and still has to go into it before we can get our hot little hands on the finished book. I think you have previously mentioned a December publication, but do you think it will really be before Christmas?

I got home from my weekend birthday getaway, and lookie what I got in my mailbox…. The “Spider’s Web” audio book. Wow!! That was way quicker than I figured. Can’t wait to listen to it. Thanks again to Mateo, Bill, Rupert and everyone else involved in putting this out.

Great news… I love getting new Space: 1999 products from Powys. I ordered mine as well. For the month of November, everyone ordering anything from Lulu.com can use coupon code NOVEMBOOK to save 20 percent off their orders. It saves $4 off the “Spider’s Web” audio book. For anyone who has held off on the other Space: 1999 books Powys released earlier this year, you can save off them as well.

Thanks to everyone involved for the early Christmas present. Actually, for me it’s a birthday present, as my B-day is this weekend.

Can you give us an update on the Year One Omnibus as well? Where is it in the process? :S

I have to agree with Zack. This was an amazing audio book.

Personally, I have listened to very few audio books — I prefer to actually read a book, visualize the scenes for myself and “hear” the characters in my head. But in this case, to actually listen to Barry Morse, to listen to the timber of his voice, his melodic pacing, his characterization for each speaker… what a treasure. This was more than just a typical audio book. It was a labor of love and a gift from a very gifted artist to the loyal fans of one of his television shows. “Resurrection” is a milestone in audio books, and a benchmark few others can hope to live up to.

Indeed, Mr. Tubb’s passing is a sad day for fans of Space: 1999. He will be sorely missed. But what a legacy he left behind. If only all of us could live as long and productive a life….

Recently I was lucky enough to locate an original 1970s copy of Mr. Tubb’s “Earthfall” at a reasonable price, but I would love to get copies of the Fanderson releases of it and Mr. Tubb’s “Earthbound.” To the best of my knowledge, these are the only two english-language Space: 1999 novels I do not have. If anyone has extra copies they would be willing to sell or knows anywhere else to find them, please post the info here. I would be eternally grateful.

Probably before you joined the forum, there was an entire lengthy thread/discussion carried on ENTIRELY in Morse code. My coded comment was a nod to that thread.

I thought that thread was hilarious.
I went and checked, and that Morse code discussion was earlier in this thread — starting around page 4 or 5, if you want to go back and check it out.

Awesome news… Thanks for the info. I’m already excited waiting for them. Have to say, though, that I’m surprised to see Android Planet and Phoenix of Magaron on the list. You have stated in the past that those four original 1970’s books do not fall within the Powys storyline. So what has changed?

Anyway, great announcement. By the way, any news on when you will be taking reservations for the Year One Omnibus?
