Patricia SokolParticipant
I now find myself seated most uncomfortably on the horns of a dilemma.
Just need to announce to Bill Latham that the Kids Choice awards is playing at my home this weekend. Bill understands the immense gravity of that announcement, possibly a MUF unto itself, completely influencing all life in this universe. And yes the Paranormal Activity stroll is still in effect here as well.
Everyone else will just have to be confused but I’m sure with this news our beloved Mr Latham’s heart has just skipped a beat!
Yay, Bill!
Pat Sokol sometimes dares me to go explore the Alterverse some more (even though she really doesn’t want to see me do that, do you, Pat?).
It’s a dark, ugly place, but knowing that it eventually gets cauterized like the festering boil that it is makes it OK.
Regarding the Compendium, however, that’s going to need updating periodically, and making you shell out the money for a hardcover for an update falls into the uncomfortable “gee, I don’t know…” department. It would give Zack multiple happy dances, but also multiple “it’s still not here!” moments.
Somebody in the chat room asked if the Compendium will be bound by the same licencing restrictions that the novels are, i.e., no e-books. I don’t know – what’s the word on this? Considering there will need to be updates to it as more Powys publications come out (thereby almost guaranteeing the upstairs bathroom will never get repainted, but that’s another story), is it possible to have a hard copy, and an electronic edition that can be updated? Believe me, I love the feel, the smell, and the look of new books, but can we take advantage of available technology? An e-book is searchable and linkable, too.
Also, are two different editions an option? I mean, can the reader have the option of hard cover or soft? Personally, I’d rather see a soft cover version so it’s a little easier on the purse strings. Go ahead, buy two and keep one hermetically sealed. B)
Thanks, Bill, for the kind words about the book. I hope everybody enjoys reading it as much as I did putting it together. Just like every author brings something of himself into his work (and a surgeon, apparently, according to Born for Adversity), a reader does as well. Being able both to read the Powysverse books and write about them meant I had (much) more than twice as much enjoyment with them. If the Compendium makes readers delve into possibilities they hadn’t considered, I’ve done my job!
I’m chuffed (English expression meaning “delighted in a soft and cuddly sort of way”) that Zack got the 1,999th post on the Forum. How very appropriate :)
Chuffed. I like that. Better chuffed than chafed.
Patricia SokolParticipantI like Phoenix of Megaron because it’s blue and watery. Is that shallow? (No pun intended. Really.) It’s …it’s…. it’s pretty. I know, that’s not necessarily a huge selling point in Sci Fi, but, if the gauntlet fits…

And by now, you all know all the steps we have to cover to get the book to print…Would anybody like to try to list them–without just copying one of my old posts? I’ll let you know if you miss one (or more)!
The other end of the rope:
1. search for hidden clues
2. keep mouth closed and fingers off the keyboard until others find the Easter Egg
3. read a painful accounting of the editing process
4. get excited at an updated post
5. repeat 3 & 4 as needed
6. watch the calendar, repeatedly
7. wait for Zack’s happy dance
lots and lots of interesting things
For me, it’s important to think about what happened because of certain events, and not why they happened, or didn’t happen. If you answer the first part, the second part falls into line.

GoodMike is about actualization and realization – he teaches you to fish.
7 out of 8 of the major players (and I do mean that quite literally) gained something from this little cosmic scuffle.
There were rules in this game, and you can discern them if you tease things apart.
Glossed over is not the same as unanswered.I know with absolute certainty there is a virtual draft of an upcoming Powys publication, currently in the proof-reading stages, that was written in an attempt to answer some of these questions from a non-author perspective and ask even further questions.
