It’s an engrossing read! A fascinating story, not to mention a fascinating story WITHIN a story! One of my favorite books! I was lucky enough to have read it from even earlier drafts. I’m not saying this because I published it–I am saying that is WHY I published it!
Mateo LatosaKeymasterWe’ve been trying to give all the major characters their due, within the parameters of the story being told. Not every book can prominently feature every character.
Born for Adversity is certainly a character driven story, and the back cover text clearly tells you who. As well, The Forsaken is clearly a Paul Morrow book, and Survival a Victor Bergman book.
Omega and Alpha are more ensemble books featuring the whole cast, probably one of the truest to the characters while being the most radical books we’ve ever published.
Ultimately though, we don’t make decisions based on how to showcase a character. We come up with an interesting story to be told, then certain characters take center stage.
One thing I like about Frieberger’s Year Two is that he allowed episodes that focus on characters other than Commander Koenig and Dr. Russell. The Beta Cloud is a Tony/Maya episode. Dorzak is a Alan/Tony/Maya story. And then you have the Tony/Helena stories, the Koenig/Maya stories. The Mark of Archanon is a rare Alan story.
Too bad there wasn’t a good Mathias-centered story. But then I am not a fan of ultra-violence. 😛
Mateo LatosaKeymasterYou are welcome. Sorry to keep you waiting and to keep you in the dark about things sometimes. We may be the only publisher that sets up puzzles for its readers to figure out to learn about upcoming titles.
We chose a very “Force of Life” blue star image for Resurrection and kept Balor’s appearance a complete secret. Even the reader doesn’t know what is making its way to Alpha until about page 40 or so! 😉We kept the fate of Victor Bergman, and his reappearance, a secret from Survival to Shepherd Moon–something like six years!!
Poor William Latham, writing the Omega diaries, exploring the development of the novel(s), while making sure to not give any secret plot points away–including the existence of a second half!!
The existence of Alpha was revealed via a link printed in the back of the book! No mention of it on the site. The link led you to the image of a hand, but we disabled the little “hand” that shows up to show you there’s an embedded link, so that only if someone tried clicking on it would it take them to the Alpha ordering page. 👿
The contribution of a foreword and afterword to the Omega/Alpha novels–somebody should come up with a name for this mini-series–from Christopher Penfold was kept secret until the cover image was posted. :woohoo:
We snuck in an afterword from Catherine Schell in Born for Adversity without referencing it on the cover–a little added surprise! :cheer:
A small excerpt was posted from the next book in the series with no title, no author reference. B)
Not to mention LOTS and LOTS of little references forshadowing events in future books that may take place in future (or PAST) time!
Hey, we’re just trying to keep it interesting. 😛
You think it was easy keeping all these secrets? Think we didn’t want to blab about them to anyone who would listen? Oh, yeah, we LOVE to blab! 😛
Thank goodness we have discreet fans! Little do you know but there are fans who get to read the books at their early and advanced stages and give us feedback. People with a good story sense or knowledge of the series. Sadly, they don’t get to enjoy the surprises like everyone else.
And yes, we still have a few surprises up our sleeves…
Mateo LatosaKeymasterIt’s not Shane Johnson’s story (though that is coming too) and for the reasons Spacefan noticed (Cellini’s around, so it’s prior ot Dragon’s Domain). Not referenced, but it’s also post-Infernal Machine (to give you an idea when it takes place).
I just thought people might enjoy a little sample, something to chew on for a while. We are in the final editing stages. Correcting typos, etc. And the novel has ALREADY BEEN APPROVED! (though we haven’t submitted a cover yet)
Damn you Powys, I want this book now!
It’s good to know we can continue to count on you, Zack, as one of our most reliable customers. 🙂
Oh, and we’ve lined up someone to write the foreword, but it’s not written yet.
I know…this is a tease. 😉
Mateo LatosaKeymasterThere are only two copies of Miss Freedom (property of our licensing agent) still available. I put one of them up on eBay just a few minutes ago. There is a Buy-It-Now option, set at roughly the middle point of what the book has been getting as an auctioned item. As you probably know, once a bid is placed, the Buy-It-Now option goes away automatically.
If anyone is interested, just search for “Miss Freedom”
Mateo
Mateo LatosaKeymasterAll gone, sad to say. But we will be republishing this book. I hope you are enjoying Year Two.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterWe ship worldwide. The international shipping rate is stated in the listing.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterA new copy of The Prisoner: Miss Freedom is NOW up on eBay. There is no Buy-It-Now option, so the auction will last the full five days.
UPDATE: I started out the auction at the cover price of the book when it came out: $20.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterActually, it was on eBay for the full five days and was bid on (which also takes away the Buy-It-Now feature) by multiple bidders and eventually won.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterPowys Media has no copies of Miss Freedom left. Though we will be republishing it. Right now we are busy with getting Year One (and a couple of surprises) ready for publication.
Miss Freedom on eBay? The licensing agent that handles our licenses with ITV for Space: 1999 and The Prisoner, has asked us to handle the auctioning of his overstock samples. To that end we have been making his books available on eBay. There were four copies of each title available.
There are still three copies of Miss Freedom available. The first one sold yesterday. The starting bid was a mere $20 (the cover price). Once I ship that book out, I’ll put up another.
These copies of Miss Freedom are from the FIRST edition of 100, made specifically to be sold at two conventions: Gallifrey in L.A. and Six-of-One’s in Portmeirion. Author Andrew Cartmel was present at BOTH conventions to do personalized signings. However, these agent copies are unsigned.

Mateo LatosaKeymasterI am really happy that Ellen Lindow may soon be writing a story for the Powysverse! I have met Ellen only once or twice, but I liked the way she and her husband treated people at the conventions. They were kind and helpful, committed to making each event a success and making even the newest fan feel at home.
I look forward to working with her!
Mateo
Mateo LatosaKeymasterAnd we thank you for it. Of course the winner of the poll may not even know they’ve been nominated. We hope they’ll be willing to write a story–there’s no guarantee, of course.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned but we’ll be asking the winner to write a NEW story for the second anthology. It’ll be exciting to see what they come up with!
Mateo
Mateo LatosaKeymasterWe don’t know yet exactly when we’ll make Year One available for pre-order. We don’t want to do it until the book is nearly ready to go to print.
Last time, with Year Two, we made it available for pre-order too early and a series of delays caused it to be released MUCH later (understatement). Everyone who pre-ordered got a book (except those who asked for refunds–they got refunds).
We hope we’ve earned your trust over the last eight years, BUT we don’t want to take any money from our readers until we have a fairly firm release date in sight.
So we’ll have to ask everyone to continue to be patient while we do the work to get this MASSIVE book finished.
We are going to print as many books as are pre-ordered during the pre-order period, plus a few more for licensing, marketing, promotional and other purposes. True, only the first 100 will be signed and numbered, but NO ONE will miss out on a book (if they pre-order). The pre-order period will be more than adequate in length, though those first 100 will likely go fast. With Year Two, the first 100 sold out in 10 days. That said, we’ve STILL got copies of Year Two available five years later!
We’ll let you know when the pre-order period will start a good month before it does. Right here, on this forum and on the Main Page (no private notifications). The pre-order period will last at least a month as well.
I hope I’ve answered your questions.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterI have just put up one of the four remaining copies of The Forsaken (Launching Pad cover) on eBay. As with all of these Agent copies, there are only four available. One copy of Resurrection already sold, but I have put a second one up. These titles are a little more expensive than our In-Print titles, but nothing like what other people are asking for on eBay and Amazon.
We even have the Agent copies of Miss Freedom! Coming soon!
Mateo
Mateo LatosaKeymasterIt’s a simple change of “can’t” to “won’t”. From “The androids can’t kill us all until they learn violent emotions.” to “The androids can kill us at any time, but they won’t until they learn violent emotions.” The first is illogical. The second leaves the Alphans in a more dangerous position of 1. being expendable and 2. potentially being more trouble than they’re worth. Knowing the androids can kill them at any time (and know how to do it) makes it more suspenseful, I feel.
Michael Butterworth was working from early draft scripts. I doubt the writer went into detail to dictate the shape of props. And may have used the same anachronistic technology.
