Mateo LatosaKeymaster
My signature is already all over these books.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterIt’s the only one that has.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterLet me know if they don’t give you joy.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterSorry, but no. There won’t be NEW images for the reprints. Only reconstructions of the originals. I haven’t decided whether to do two covers or just one for The Forsaken. I am leaning toward one. I don’t want people buying two copies just to get two covers. The original was released that way as a compromise between Carlton and the author. The rose petal artwork by done by myself and Cesar Gallegos, who also did the layout of the cover.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterAnd, I finished proofreading and correcting Chapter Five as well. Five down, four to go.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterWell, in this case both are true. It is a second printing, but the typo fixes could certainly make it a second edition.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterI’ve now proofread and corrected Chapters One through Four. I added a few lines here and there, so I’ve sent the revised chapters off to John Mason for feedback. That’s all for this session. Maybe I’ll do more work on it later. To be quite honest, I’ve been sitting here for four and a half hours and I need to move about!
Mateo LatosaKeymasterThey do count! Resurrection had to be proofread and corrected, the cover layout had to be redone TWICE, due to a mix up with the logos. The Resurrection audiobook inserts had to be redesigned and then redone twice–again because of the logo confusion. The audio files also had to be re-tagged and configured to Lulu’s specs.
As well, both works had to be reformatted to Lulu’s very different specs. All that takes a fair amount of time and effort.
As well, I have proofread and corrected The Forsaken already. The artwork will have to be redone from scatch and the book reformatted to Lulu’s specs.
Even reissues require a significant amount of work.
Of course, we had the thrill of knocking off a digit in the edition countdown:
10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2
That felt good!
Mateo LatosaKeymasterWell, it’s Monday noon, President’s Day. I have a lemon-lime squash and a glass of water–have you ever tried to drink a lemon-lime squash WITHOUT diluting it? [a tall glass of nothing but squeezed lemons and limes]. It’s the Powys equivalent of rocket fuel!
On to Chapter Three!
BTW, if anybody’s keeping score. We released Android Planet, Resurrection, and the Resurrection audiobook–all via Lulu, all THIS MONTH! That’s three releases in three weeks!
Mateo LatosaKeymasterWell, here we go!
I just finished proofreading and correcting Chapter One. That’s all I’m going to do for today. I am going to take some personal time and finish a novel I’ve been reading: Poul Anderson’s Starfarers. I’ve got about 45 pages to go and would like to finish it. Tomorrow is a holiday, so I’ll be able to put a few more hours in to Phoenix tomorrow.
LATE UPDATE:
I finished Starfarers and still had time to get back to Phoenix. I’ve now proofread and corrected Chapter Two as well.Mateo LatosaKeymasterThe pics have to be no more than 200 x 200.
Mateo LatosaKeymaster9. Make publisher laugh out loud.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterJohn Mason sent me a new version of the manuscript last week. I read it today, and I’d say we’re nearing completion. I suggested a few tweaks to his changes. As you can see, it’s a sort of back and forth of ideas. I sent off this now NEWER new version to him this afternoon. He’ll give me feedback. Once we reach agreement, then we begin the task of proofreading.
And by now, you all know all the steps we have to cover to get the book to print…
Would anybody like to try to list them–without just copying one of my old posts? I’ll let you know if you miss one (or more)!
Mateo LatosaKeymasterNo, it is my son, Vicente. That photo of us was taken in September of 2010 during a visit I made.
Mateo LatosaKeymasterThe relationship between Sandra and Paul is precisely one of the things we worked on in the revisions. In the original novel, their relationship is…well…a little shocking. Paul continually dismisses her ideas, derides her as being less intelligent, and threatens her with physical violence (not that he’s serious) as a matter of course. At one point, as she’s struggling with a task, he licks the back of her neck! [Seriously, look ’em up in the original book!] We changed this and made Morrow a more supportive character.
There are many, many small revisions that the casual reader would never notice—which is good. We didn’t WANT readers to notice them!
The big revisions dealt with mostly technical issues: the eagles no longer have WHEELS that drop down out of the four cuboid pods (so they can tow it across the surface!), and the stunguns no longer freeze you in place like the flame guns on the television version of Logan’s Run (with no after-effects, and with the victim unaware they’d been shot).
I tried to change only those things that HAD to be changed to fit into the series, into the Powysverse. John Mason made sure that all the rewrites matched his father’s style.
