Perhaps you could elaborate on the publication that you were talking about – I thought you might be referring to the two STAR TREK – The New Voyages books that were published years ago by Bantam (Corgi here in the UK) and edited by Marshak and Culbreath. But thinking about what they wrote in their intros to those books, I don’t think they specifically set guidelines as to what could and couldn’t be written about. So I assume you are referring to something else.
From the quoted guidelines I think he’s referring to the annual Star Trek: Strange New Worlds anthologies that Pocket ran for about ten or twelve years, from the mid-90s to the mid-noughties.

Surely it would be better to wait for the book and read it then? After all, that’s what she wrote the foreword for…

    Ha Ha!

Scratch my last comment above – I just realised who ‘lonemagpie’ is!

If the author can’t have a sneak preview of the foreword, who can?!!!!

    😀

Nah, I think I’m excited to get the finished book in my hands, and that’ll add an extra frisson, to see what she says in it!

I like both, for exactly those reasons – and hopefully Born For Adversity reflects that.

It’s weird seeing my name not just next to Catherine Schell but on the same line as JMS…

yeah, but I’m speaking as the guy who wrote it! There’s a difference between having the manuscript on the hard drive, and having a physical copy to put on the shelf
