I still haven’t got mine yet!
David A McInteeParticipantHey, I’d be up for doing more…
I posted this already but whatever: here goes again: There is one thing I do not like about this book and it concerns how Maya is left at the end but I don’t want to spoil the book by saying what it is yet.
I can see that – it was part of the brief for the story arc, so I’ll dodge the blame, but I think the fact there has been a development means things can be taken in new directions, and that very opinion explored in the series…
David, first time? Haven’t you written for DOCTOR WHO before? I’m sure you have. And pretty good books they are too. Unless I have the wrong David!?
No, that’s right – but it’s my first time doing Space 1999
Anyway really really really enjoyed this book. I read it fast and it has a lot of action…as a second seasoner that is appropriate or to follow that. BUT the action makes sense and has different slants on say the Eagle crash or a fight scene near a travel tube. Really well done stuff.
I basically wanted the action stuff to be properly epic – like, this is how a Year two element *should* have been done, if they had a producer who really had a love for the show, and an unlimited budget…
I just got my copies of Shepherd Moon and Born for Adversity yesterday. I am biased, but they look great. I put them on a shelf with my Year One and Year Two novelizations. Fun. I was surprised at the thickness of BfA, having only read it on computer screen or coil bound editing copy.
I can’t wait…
David and everyone at Powys look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts on the novel. Please follow the rules on SPOILERS but don’t be afraid to post.
Especially with the sort of phrases we’ve seen in the “congratulations” thread so far – y’know, “fantastic”, “brilliant”, “please do another one”, that kind of thing…
David A McInteeParticipantFirst time writing for a franchise, I always worry if I’ve captured it right…
Especially here, where the two seasons are so different, and so many fans hate season 2. (though I guess BFA’s tone is taken from how I think season 2 *should* have gone…)
Got to be careful what I say about the book cos I don’t want to give any spoilers away but it was really, really good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’d love to go into it in detail but this is not the place !!Catherine Schell said in her Foreword that it could have been ‘made into a film’ and I agree totally…
That’s just the way I write stuff- visuals in mind…
Now comes the part where I’m bricking it in the hope that everybody doesn’t hate it!Lonemagpie…you have absolutey nothing to worry about !!!
Born From Adversity was a joy to read. I wanted to make it last longer BUT I couldn’t stop myself. I obviously won’t give anything away BUT the words brilliant…fantastic…and wonderful probably sum it up for me…
Wow! That’s a relief!
Hope you’re working on the next one !
If Mateo wants another one now that the company’s back up, I’d be up for that like a shot.
Been away on business for last few days…so a bit out of the loop…Glad you’re copies have arrived…can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend…
Must admit to carrying Born For Adversity around with me like treasured possession since it arrived on Wednesday!!
I have one problem though…I fully intended to sit and read it uninteruppted, savouring every sentence and paragraph BUT I couldn’t resit it’s calling. So I read chapter here and a chapter there inbetween meetings AND now I’ve finished it… 🙁
Procyonstar
But did you like it…?
I can’t wait to get mine…
Born for Adversity is directly from a bible verse. Look it up once you’ve read the book. But it also has true significance in terms of the story being told. Once again titles with multiple possible meanings.
Proverbs 17:17 to be precise…

I hope people don’t hate it!
Our postman is getting seriously worried. I can see it in his eyes as he approaches our front door.’Why is she waiting for me again today? Why does she have that mad excited glint in her eyes again?'
I’ll tell you why…It’s because Lulu sent me a shipping email yesterday and I know my new Space 1999 book is on its way!
Today…Tuesday 9th February…our lovely postman…just delivered… Born For Adversity 🙂
I have it in my hands…and its beautiful. Another wonderful cover! I’ve read Catherine Schells foreward and now I have to get through the day until I can sit down later and give it the total concentration it deserves.
Thank you Powys & Lulu for making me so happy !!
Now comes the part where I’m bricking it in the hope that everybody doesn’t hate it!
Those of you outside the Chicano community…that would be EVERYBODY 😛 …may not be aware that February is the month in which the annual Cuauhtemoc Ceremony is held. As Cesar is a Danzante Azteca (Aztec Dancer) he is preparing for the more than day-long ceremony.
My wife Lesley’s a student and performer of Egyptian Dance, whose (along with all her friends) have also broadened their horizons to include dances from other cultures – I’m sure she’d be interested in knowing more about Aztec Dance…
David A McInteeParticipantYay!
Off I go to plug it in my usual haunts…
Come to think of it, if I’m plugging a Space 1999 book in places like the TrekBBS, I ought to mention that Star Trek: Seven Deadly Sins, featuring Reservoir Ferengi by yours truly, should be hitting stores from the end of the month….
David A McInteeParticipantI don’t think there are any rules about not mentioning other series on here – most of us are likely fans of more than one show. 1999, Trek, Dr Who, Blakes 7, and lots of others – I love em all.
(mind you, I’m biased, having now written for Trek *and* 1999 as well as Dr Who…)
