Michael,
It certainly helps to have a TV set that is 1080P ready in order to see the Blu Ray episodes the way they are meant to be seen in true high definition. Nearly all current flat screen sets on the market have that capability.
As for a Blu Ray player it depends on whether you are going to buy the Blu Ray Network set or the A&E box set.
If you plan to purchase the A&E set, then I recommend any Blu Ray player that can play both Blu Ray discs and standard DVD. Most Blu Ray players have that capability. I have an LG player that is just wonderful.
If you plan to purchase the Network set, then you should consider buying a multi-regional Blu Ray player. There are a number of online vendors who sell these. It will allow you to watch any Blu Rays or standard DVDs from around the world.
I have a Pioneer model that I use at home and the school I teach film at. I can attest to the fact that they are very dependable.
I hope this helps you out.

David BobzienParticipantI absolutely concur with many of the comments here that Bill’s 1999 novels are an amazing extension of the original series universe, but I can personally attest that his work outside of SPACE: 1999 is just as riveting and highly underrated. MARY’S MONSTER is a must-read and, quite frankly, would make a bone chilling film !
I can easily see Bill’s name appearing of the silver screen !

David BobzienParticipantHi Mateo,
I just purchased the Resurrection Audio Book and I am thrilled that you are following that one up with an audio recording of William Latham’s “Spider’s Web” – truly one of the best short stories from SHEPHERD MOON !
BTW – It was wonderful to talk to both you and Bill via conference call at the Journey to Where con in Austin.

David BobzienParticipantThe order I recommend is.
1. Resurrection
2. The Forsaken
3. Survival
4. Shepherd Moon (collection of short stories. Two essential stories to read before the following novel are “The Astelian Gift” and “Spider’s Web” for continuity sake. But you check out the other stories. They are well worth the time !
5. Born for Adversity
6. Omega
7. AlphaSPECIAL NOTE: Do not forget to check out Eternity Unbound ! It is a marvelous work of Gothic science fiction, profound and superbly poetic.

David BobzienParticipantI was born in the sixties. If Helena was born around 1970, she grew up with LPs! And before VCRs!.
I actually knew people who had VCRs during the 1970’s. This is a little off topic here. My apologies.
Coincidentally, a friend of mine in San Jose recorded the original telecast of “Breakaway” and “Dragon’s Domain” from KRON TV San Francisco in September 1975. “Breakaway” had the Year One Intro and Outro that Landau and Bain recorded for each of the stations in the U.S.
So…to make a long story shorter, I inherited that tape from him in the 1980’s. Several years ago word got back to Granada/Network (and BBC Technicolor) in the UK (I live in San Francisco) that I had the tape with the promo footage. Arrangements where made with Network express since there was deadline just a few weeks away that had to be met.
Ros Connors received my tape in London in July 2005 and took the Underground to get the tape to BBC Technicolor in time. BBC Technicolor was responsible for “restoring” the video image which, for the most part, had not aged well. Ros ending up taking several hours to get to BBC which should have only taken her 20 minutes. Right as she was entering the Underground, terrorists exploded bombs in the London subway system. She did everything in her power to ensure that BBC would receive that tape in time, dodging mayhem, traffic jams and closed off streets and subway routes.
For those of you who have, or know about the Network Year One restored release, know that Ros made it there in the nick of time. The Intros and Outros are on the DVD set.
It just goes to show you what we are willing to do for SPACE: 1999.

David BobzienParticipantI am curious as to which cover proved to be more popular with readers.
I actually went with the rose cover.
David BobzienParticipantI have been distracted this past week by business and looks what happens !
How exciting !! I just ordered my copy from LULU.
At last the long awaited premiere of Year 3.
I guess this is a prime example of the saying “patience is a virtue”.
Can’t wait to read it.

David BobzienParticipantIn all due respect to John Muir, regarding the comment about those who wrote for Trek were unlikely to watch 1999, actually People Magazine did a story in the late 1980s with the Roddenberry’s. Part of the article mentioned their son who was an avid fan of SPACE: 1999.
Additionally, I clearly remember growing up in the 1970s and there are several articles featuring interviews with Trek writers and actors who mentioned seeing SPACE: 1999 (usually they had negative remarks) during the series two season run. SPACE: 1999 was a popular series (yes…both seasons) in the U.S, so it was widely seen in most areas of this country for several years even after its cancellation (due to budget problems) in 1977.
If you would like further information, may I suggest checking out The Catacombs website. There are substantial articles you can check out on the history of this series on that site.
Best,
DavidDavid BobzienParticipantMateo,
I’ve taken your advice. Consider it done. I have informed both Online Alpha and Gaybase Alpha that it is now available !
Good luck !

David BobzienParticipantJust luck of the draw, I guess. I had a few down moments and checked this site for updates and, behold, it was available!
Any tips on when Born for Adversity will be ready. I feel like I am on a roll ! 🙂
David BobzienParticipantBRAVO ! I already ordered my copy. It’s great to see the new 1999 publications again.
Congratulations !
