Mateo made me take out some typos! There’s a microscropic author’s note, other than that, it’s the same as the original.
Don’t tell anybody, but the Android Planet proof copy was just ordered…the countdown begins…
William LathamKeymasterSnuck in a new category, Original Fiction, for good old Mary’s Monster. You’ll find it up on the menu at the left.
William LathamKeymasterAw, shucks, folks, what’s a guy to say?
But you’ll find this interesting — the name of the author whose name I didn’t divulge in Cyclops is in your posting, Steve F. But before everybody starts complaining, he’s a fun writer, his stuff is a blast to read, he’s entitled to his opinion, and in many ways he’s the role model for all media tie-in authors. He also does a mean Porky Pig impersonation.
On the cloning front, I’ve got the pod under my bed but it keeps blending me with one of my turtles and I end up writing slower.
Thanks, folks. It’s always nice to know people enjoy my scribblings.
William LathamKeymasterOur Mr. Scott — the Miracle Worker — I’m amazed that’s only occuring to me now!
We need a new cover in four minutes or we’re all dead!
Yeah, that sounds about right.
William LathamKeymasterLook for Powys Chat on the Main Menu on the left — we’ll try it out for a bit and see how it goes — behave yourselves, everyone!
William LathamKeymasterIn Joe Pesci voice: Funny how? đ
Mateo says the same thing. You have to laugh sometimes!
Cyclops probably wouldn’t exist without folks like you, Ally — always knew you’d want to read it! Just didn’t know if anyone else would!
William LathamKeymasterKindle as in Amazon’s ebook reader. Kindle, Nook, there are all kinds of tools out there. Cyclops isn’t limited by the license agreement with ITV, so downloadable books are feasible, and this may be the first we put out there.
William LathamKeymasterWe’ve looked at it — there are some server limitations, other fun technical problems to consider, but we could leverage existing chat utilities. Time will tell…
William LathamKeymasterHigh Points of 2010
1. Shepherd Moon FINALLY getting released.
2. The Powys Forum â seriously, how much fun has it been? Itâs the ultimate command conference!
3. Realizing that the typo in the url at the end of Omega, and our subsequent posting on how to correct it, actually helped people pursue the puzzle â you canât make this stuff up, itâs mysterious!
4. Ken Scott!
5. Rupert Booth!
6. Seeing the first sales of Alpha happening through the lulu.com web-site
7. Watching Pat Sokol create a lexicon for describing what was happening in the Powys books
8. Procyonstarâs updates on books from order to mailbox to hand to eye to brain to heart â when senility kicks in some day, I hope memories of these updates are some of the last memories to go
9. Getting to talk to Christopher Penfold on the radio â seriously cool
10. The triumphant return of Mateo LatosaItâs been an absolutely amazing year, one that was, ironically, years in the making. This community, and thatâs what it is, has been rewarding beyond belief. We tried to shock and surprise and reward you this year, and youâve done the same to us time and time again.
Weâre grateful to you, not just as customers but increasingly as friends. Mateoâs goal at the very beginning, as stated in his panel back in 2000 or so (or was it 2001?) was to put out literature, not just tie-ins. When we see debate and disagreement going on, we know we succeeded. This stuff is open to interpretation. Say what you will, this is NOT the kind of debate you typically hear in Star Trek â âoh, they rely on tachyon beams too much!â is a very different kind of debate from what we typically hear on the Powys Forum. We really wanted to jump-start your passion again and we feel weâve done that â but youâre the ones keeping it going now.
So, our hats off to you at this year draws to an end. About a year ago, I would imagine many were dubious that anything would actually happen. Well, a lot has happened, and will continue to happen, and your support, your interest, your passion, certainly help to fuel ours. Weâve branched out into some new media this year and will continue to try to stay cutting edge (where licensing permits â no ebooks coming any time soon for that very reason). Weâll also continue to make mistakes, disappoint some, infuriate others, and march to the beat of our own drum because frankly, thatâs all we can do.
Expect the unexpected in the future. Thatâs whatâs at the heart of Space: 1999. We donât âboldly goâ â we face the unknown with a sense of awe and mystery but most importantly, with a sense of purpose. Itâs the origin story of a people, as Johnny Byrne liked to say, and that story, in case you havenât noticed, didnât end in the 1970s. Weâll fill in more missing pieces but weâll also be heading deeper into the future, one that at times will grow dark. Sometimes, itâll be a bumpy ride, in 2011 and beyond.
Much as one hates to quote from the âotherâ franchise, sometimes, you just canât resist.
Buckle up.
William LathamKeymasterI’ve also just discovered that in the Amazon.com MP3 library, you can actually get the soundtrack to Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, which has my toes tapping! All good things to those who wait…
William LathamKeymasterI once asked Mateo if he’d rebooted his computer. He said he’d kicked it again but that didn’t help.
đ
William LathamKeymasterI’d be even more productive if I didn’t have to spend so much time carefully inserting typos. đ
William LathamKeymasterBut remember, at the end of Alpha, Luke and Anna are on their “new Arkadia” — right?
As for Victor, well, we have to remember Victor’s getting on in years, and years pass between Alpha and MFMA.
There are post-Alpha stories in the works, and from a chronological perspective, eventually we will get to MFMA.
William LathamKeymaster(Dressed as a General)
All right, stop this, it’s too silly. It started out as a perfectly nice conversation about a book and now it’s gone all silly.
I enjoy a good joke as well as anyone. Except perhaps my wife. And some of her friends. Come to think of it, most people enjoy a good joke more than I do. But this is talk about books, and books are serious, and may God strike me dead if it were otherwise.
RIP, General Harry S. Frankenstein (Mrs.)
William LathamKeymasterI’ve told you once.
