Proof copies of the Compendium are now heading to the proper authorities.
Back to COTG for me…
William LathamKeymasterI can’t seem to delegate anything…
William LathamKeymasterShould be more smiles today…
William LathamKeymasterOmelpha? I’m still giggling over that one. Too funny.
Somebody finally noticed that Helena’s son and Bob Mathias’ daughter hooked up in the future! There was some special bond between Bob and Helena — I’m gonna miss having them interact.
Y’know, having Kano come back is something we really talked about. We were bringing Victor back. Late in the game, we decided to bring Celllini back (that was never planned in the beginning). Even bringing Cellini back was scary — we were nervous people were going to complain that we were using the scenario to make things too neat and tidy. Bringing Kano back felt excessive — besides, we’d just brought him back in Born for Adversity — as far as we’re concerned, David Kano is back.
I’m remembering a conversation I had with Mateo about a decade ago when Balor was resurrecting folks in Boot Hill and we knew John Koenig/ATAP was buried there. Oh, the options that present themselves, and the paths that open up, only to be left unexplored.
For now.
William LathamKeymasterIn the immortal words of Bugs Bunny, “Oh, my stars!”
William LathamKeymasterOkay, expectations sufficiently lowered — mission accomplished.
Shout out to Pat Sokol — I don’t know why it happens (and I’ve been a totally willing co-conspirator), but I just love it when dialogues on this forum go Python, and viewing this discussion through the prism of the Spanish Inquisition sketch was just so fun!
Steve F. — you’ll find this interesting. I was plotting out a portion of “The Final Revolution” last night and hit a moment where I thought to myself…wow, it would be really useful if Maya could change her shape right now. I think I tapped into the mindset of FF for a moment — Maya just made it too darn easy to solve plot problems!
Can’t wait to really get going on “Final Revolution” — if there’s ever going to be a “rip-roaring adventure” in Space:1999, it’s going to be that book. “Children of the Gods” will likely feel more like an episode, while “Final Revolution” will feel more like a movie.
Did someone say Christmas ornaments?
William LathamKeymasterBy the way, just to add a little clarification to my earlier post, editing Pat’s book isn’t taking so long due to actual editing — it’s formatting! To put this in art terms, I’m obsessing on the frame — the actual painting is beyond cool (and I think if I scrape away the paint in one corner, I’m finding an early drawing of Da Vinci’s helicopter prototype!).
William LathamKeymasterWe Yellowbeards are never more dangerous than when we’re dead!
BL
(Who’s still editing Pat’s book, about to (hopefully) start editing another S99 book, is writing two S99 books himself (really, two?), who always appreciates Steve F.’s kind plugs, and is eagerly awaiting the final drafts of Phoenix of Megaron and The Whispering Sea to start formatting — and who wonders if we’re dead, how come I’m so friggin’ busy?).
By the way, what you might want to remember this breakaway day — on breakaway day ten years ago this week, a book called Resurrection was officially announced! Yeah, it’s almost been ten years (it’ll be ten years come March of 2012, methinks).
William LathamKeymasterGossip in the chat room…
William LathamKeymasterSeptember 19th, 2011 is the cutoff for orders through lulu.com for the audiobooks — we’ll see if we can’t migrate elsewhere before then. Updates as we have them.
William LathamKeymasterWe have talked about hardcovers — we try to keep in mind that these are budget-conscious times, but some interesting possibilities that have been discussed include someday doing an omnibus edition of the novels in the same format as the Y1 and Y2 omnibi as well as if I ever get around to writing Tales of Arkadia, bundling that with Spider’s Web, Omega, and Alpha into one giant volume that would fill in lots of pieces of the mythology that haven’t been included in existing books yet. Pat Sokol sometimes dares me to go explore the Alterverse some more (even though she really doesn’t want to see me do that, do you, Pat?).
Regarding the Compendium, however, that’s going to need updating periodically, and making you shell out the money for a hardcover for an update falls into the uncomfortable “gee, I don’t know…” department. It would give Zack multiple happy dances, but also multiple “it’s still not here!” moments.
Weigh in, folks — who wants hardcovers? We can also reprint the individual books as hardcovers (but for the shorter books?). I think we’re always more interested in trying to get new books out, rather than repackaging the old ones.
William LathamKeymasterMy outsider status has been confirmed.
William LathamKeymasterI’m just amazed there wasn’t more hooplah when Zack nabbed forum posting #1999.
William LathamKeymasterBalor likely returns tonight…
William LathamKeymasterSee the first chapter of Alpha — there’s an explanation there of when the ATAP split occured (okay, well, not the exact date…).
