Hey, Scott — sorry to hear about your friend. Normally I try not to share too much stuff from the books before they’re out (except at PowysCons), but here’s a segment that begged to see the light of day in response to your posting — this is from The Final Revolution. If there’s anything spoilery below, it’s from something that was inferred at the very end of Children of the Gods.

“This hurts. I know this hurts. And when you feel pain like this, all you want to do is not feel it for a little while. But that’s not a challenge. You can always make your pain go away. You’re not making the source of the pain go away. That’s something altogether different. So you can hide it with work, with responsibilities, you can hide it with things that feel good, like burying yourself in your hobbies. It’s there. It’s always there. It’s…yes. That’s it. It’s like a foot. Like a foot walking on beach sand. You sweep away that sand and it’s like the foot was never there. The ocean even comes and helps you. But the foot was there. Soon you have to deny you ever even walked on that beach. You have to change the way you even see the world. You lose contact with that pain. Until it erupts on you in some way you’d never even expect. That’s the pathology of the mind. Your mind is keeping track of its wounds. But consciously, you’re whitewashing it. Nothing hurts you, does it? Can’t let anybody see that. I don’t know why I’m even telling you this. No. I know why. Don’t waste these feelings. You loved her. Don’t mask that love because it hurts to know that she’s gone. How you felt about her isn’t gone. Let that…let that shine until you can feel it glowing on your skin. Grief is not where you bury your love. It’s where you reveal it. Where you really come to know the size of it, how big it was inside of you. Where you allow the pain to have its day. Do that? Do that and you’ll honor her memory.”

Getting there. Don’t know if it’s this year or early next yet. Sometimes when it’s time to go for Act Three I let the stuff just build up and it flies out in a couple of days and this feels like one of those. So many character interactions to deal with, however, which means a draft two that ends up being a lot of work. But I do at least some work on it every day…

Ultra, try one more time — I looked into the plumbing behind the scenes and you had the old Joomla text editor (probably left over from the old site) — I switched you to the newer one.

So in the forum, you should see a tab called Profile. If you click that, then you should see the edit thing.

Okay, I fixed the link for you (that seems to work now). When you’re in the forum and you click the Profile tab (do you see that?), you should see an Edit link all the way to right, typically in red. Firefox seems to be spotty — IE seems to work fine.

If we can get Simon Morris to post up here, it’ll be like the gang’s all here. Procyonstar, are you there?

Ultra, I’m able to update my avatar — can you try again? Once you upload the picture, just Save. It’s not the most intuitive interface unfortunately. And make sure you don’t pick a picture from the gallery. Also, the URL in your signature leads to a dead link — if there’s a different URL you want, post it up here and I can update your signature for you.

Mrs. Sokol, I should have some reading material for you in the not too distant future! I haven’t sent you anything since that draft of “Eternity Unhinged”. Oh, wait, that’s not supposed to exist. My bad.

Facebook’s nice (I set up the original page!) but not my cup of tea — I’d rather spend my time writing books! Putting stuff up here gives people a reason on the Facebook page to say hey, go check out the Powys site. It’s the best of both worlds.

Don’t know about the current state of the Omnibus. I’m trying to be writer this year, not publisher (which is a nice way for me to say go bother the other guy on Facebook!) 😛

And Steve F., don’t forget Emma Burrows’ great contribution in Shepherd Moon!

I’ll offer one little tidbit from the book. And this is pretty much the ONLY appearance in the book by this character:

Elsewhere, what had once been David Kano felt something slip away from whatever part of him could grip things.
“They’re gone,” he said. “My friends are gone.”

That’s NOT from the end of the book, so don’t worry that much.
    But worry anyway…

Black Doves is still in the shop…

Final Revolution is still in the shop…

As to which one hits the market first? Only time will tell…

If Shepherd Moon on Amazon (US or UK) gets up to ten reviews, perhaps we’ll divulge further information…I’m just sayin’…

Well, not for nothin’, if it did include something called “Eternity Unhinged” (no promises) the new edition would be different from the old one, which would still make the old one limited, right? Different size, different content, different animal.

And then Bill looked up from proofreading the final proof of Whispering Sea and said to himself….hmmm, I’d better not even mention that “Eternity Unhinged” thing I’ve been writing…
