OK. I admit it. Like a crack adict… I await each new reveal, every new novel or short story written by him that’s set in the SPACE: 1999 universe/multiverse with incredible excitement.

I know he’ll hate me for starting this thread, but won’t you please join me in raising a toast to this most likeable, downt-to Earth, easily contactable and most gifted writer? 😉

And for the record, being a fan of Trek, my hope for Mr Latham is that his ’99 Novels are viewed with as much “hooplah” (I think that’s the American word for it!) as Peter David’s Star Trek – TNG novels used to be (I’m talking about “Vendetta”, the brilliant “Q-in-Law” & “Q-Squared” and the masterpiece that is “IMZADI”).

Like I said on the Powys Chat page:

Bill… your name is right up there amongst the Christopher Penfold, Johnny Byrne, Peter David & MJS (see “B5”). You’re an amazing, brilliant writer! & I love your stuff!

Steve F DISCLAIMER! I’ve drunk nearly 2 bottles of wine. Sober or not… William Latham is an AMAZING writer imho. Like it or not, he was destined by the MUF(s) to “reign in Hell rather than serve in Heaven” 😛 😛 😉 B)

I agree completely Steve, for one who has come to Space 1999 verrrry late Bill’s writing is amazing. He has captured the feel of the original series and has the characters spot on. :cheer: He should be writing more, perhaps we could clone him several times over and have 6 or 7 on the go at the one time. That way he could (almost) keep up with our cravings for more 1999 novels.

A huge “Zoop-Zoop-Wheeeee” is what’s called for here. (Which is downunder fannish for Hip-Hip-Hooray) 😉

:cheer:  :woohoo:  :cheer:  :woohoo:  :cheer:  :woohoo:  :cheer:  :woohoo:  :cheer:  :woohoo:  :cheer:

I always told Bill that one day I’d be able to stand at the back of the room and name-drop, “Ya know, I know the author.” 😛

…and we could have zazzle stuff too…

‘William Latham’ pins, mugs and t-shirts

That’s something you’d have to discuss with Mr. Latham himself. Powys doesn’t have the license to market William Latham merchandise!

What surprises me is how often I put Mr. Latham’s first novel, Mary’s Monster, up on eBay and no one buys it (despite being a from a limited first–and so far only–edition of 200). I hope that people will branch out beyond Space: 1999 and follow William Latham as an author.

He has a lot of interesting stories to tell OUTSIDE of the Alphan universe. Even outside of the science fiction genre.

If people are interested, we’ll put up a page on the site, or put some copies on eBay. The printing is not the same quality as our later books–it was our first book! But the story kicks ass!

Aw, shucks, folks, what’s a guy to say?

But you’ll find this interesting — the name of the author whose name I didn’t divulge in Cyclops is in your posting, Steve F. But before everybody starts complaining, he’s a fun writer, his stuff is a blast to read, he’s entitled to his opinion, and in many ways he’s the role model for all media tie-in authors. He also does a mean Porky Pig impersonation.

On the cloning front, I’ve got the pod under my bed but it keeps blending me with one of my turtles and I end up writing slower.

Thanks, folks. It’s always nice to know people enjoy my scribblings.

I absolutely concur with many of the comments here that Bill’s 1999 novels are an amazing extension of the original series universe, but I can personally attest that his work outside of SPACE: 1999 is just as riveting and highly underrated. MARY’S MONSTER is a must-read and, quite frankly, would make a bone chilling film !

I can easily see Bill’s name appearing of the silver screen !

I’ve put Mary’s Monster up for sale on THIS SITE. No need to go to eBay. I’ve included three Paypal buttons for those of you in the U.S., Canada and Outside of North America, respectively.

To find the page, just go to the MAIN MENU, click on Space: 1999 Books, and look to the main index of articles on the right. The topmost article is Mary’s Monster. Click on it and you will be taken to the Mary’s Monster ordering page. There you will find the cover image, the back cover text, and the three Paypal buttons.

You’re in for a treat. Only 200 of these books were ever printed, less than half remain in stock. Get ’em while they last!

Snuck in a new category, Original Fiction, for good old Mary’s Monster. You’ll find it up on the menu at the left.

Hmmm, buy buttons don’t seem to work. Anyone else getting this problem? 🙁

There is now a Mary’s Monster ordering page, as some of you have already taken advantage of. I have just added the cover image of Mary’s Monster to the Powys Main Page; find it right after the covers of the Prisoner novels. Click on the book-cover image to go to the ordering page.

We’ll sell what we have in stock, but once they’re gone, they’re gone. This original version of the novel will not be reprinted. It is both William Latham’s first published novel and Powys’s first publication as well.

    And a damn good read!

    😉
