Chapter One is now, hopefully, typo free!
Chapter One is now, hopefully, typo free!
I have to say… this was an absolutely brilliant novel!
I approached it at the time I originally bought it (yep, I’ve got first editions of all the Powys Novels – I’ve been buying your books since day 1!) with so much excitement… to me, this was the end of Year 1 and the start of Year 2. I wasn’t dissapointed by it, that’s for sure! The novel absolutely delievered on everything I had hoped it would!
NOTE: Can I just say, I love SPACE: 1999 in its entirety! I see both Year 1 and Year 2 as a single piece, but I came to ’99 when Year 2 was being repeated on Saturday mornings in the early 80’s here in the UK. I was immediately hooked by it’s warmth, humour, Tony & Maya’s friendship, John & Helena’s love relationship, the Eagles, the Swifts, the fast pace of the stories I watched etc. etc. all this in spite of the rubber frog monsters & Brain the flippin’ iritating Brain! SPACE has been my absolute no. 1 favourite series ever since. I love it with all my heart B) anyway, I digress, back to Survival…
The novel is full of incredible moments… it’s just brilliant tbh. For me, the moment that thrilled me the most, was when Koenig and co. enter and activate Command Centre. I could just see the doors open and Koening stride in (as Helena does in the Year 2 Opening Ttitles) and then pick up his new jacket. I was almost jumping up and down on the spot. Year 2 had BEGUN! It was wonderful and Koenig’s personal farewell to Victor on the lunar surface… truly moving.
Anyway, needless to say, the only flaw with the novel is the sheer number of typo’s. It was horrendous! A typo-free re-release with a new Ken Scott cover would make me buy it again.
Any chance Ken’ll get a shot at that Mateo?
December 21, 2010 at 5:55 am #1520Mateo LatosaKeymasterThe reason for all the typos in the first edition is that I had two files: an uncorrected one, and a corrected one. I mixed them up when Brian Ball sent me some final edits. I added his edits to the uncorrected one and then sent it for publication. By the time I discovered my mistake, I had 1000 copies in boxes in my living room. D’oh!
