yes! believe it or not, there is a tiny little nod to 1999 in the movie Super 8 which came out this weekend. It’s the new JJ Abrams/Steven Spielberg movie.
the story takes place in 1979, and the main kids have tons of late 70’s genre and collectible knick knacks all over their rooms.
the filmmaker kid Charles has wacky packages stickers, creepy magazines, movie posters and other things, while the main kid Joe has a bunch of cool models and some non-sport cards up on the wall.
amongst a number of Star Wars cards, there’s a Donruss Space 1999 card. #1 I if recall right.
pretty cool to see it in the background

Cool factoid, Ultra. I saw “Super 8” Friday on an IMAX screen, but missed that little tidbit. I’ll definitely look for it when I see it again, and my wife and I both commented that “Super 8” is one movie we would both like to see again. Little plug here for anyone who has not seen “Super 8” yet… GO SEE IT!!! This is one of the best movies I have seen in years. I cannot say enough good things about this one. One thing that really impressed me is that considering it takes place in 1979, it felt so real. In 1979, I was not much older than the kids in this movie, and I felt like I knew them. Their lives and homes were not so different than mine and my friends in the 70s. J.J. Abrams really got it right. Anyway, awesome, awesome movie. Seriously, go see it.

I felt the same about Super 8, Slindvall. It could almost have been about me and friends at that time. We even started making a super 8 movie. I don’t even remember exactly what it was about, but had something to do with some aliens called the Triangulons who were threatening to blow up the moon! We even scavenged some Space: 1999 models (and a Millenium Falcon) for our model spaceship. We never finished it though.
