John Mason and I have FINISHED our final edit of Phoenix of Megaron! The novel is much revised and reworked, taking the story in new and unexpected directions. The foreword is done too.

I will be writing the back cover text today. The amazing Ken Scott will be doing the wraparound cover. And then the book needs to be formatted to Lulu’s specs. Once we have a proof copy and we can see that all our orbs are in their orbits, the book will be released.

This will be the first time Phoenix of Megaron will have been published in the UK–the local Lulu will save our UK friends the international shipping charges.

I sent the back cover text (two versions) to John Mason. He’ll work his magic and probably reduce my “wordy” word count by half!

Ken Scott has done his magic again and turned in a wraparound (front spine back) cover for Phoenix of Megaron. I should have all the parts of the manuscript put together by this weekend:

John Rankine bibliograpy
Foreword
Novel
End Material

Then the book will be formatted, a proof copy ordered, and if it all checks out….well, somebody we know will be doing a happy dance!

That’s fantastic news! Yay! :cheer:

Will you be uploading the corrected version of “Android Planet” to Lulu at the same time that PoM goes on sale Mateo? I’d like to buy both tbh (a typo free version of AP would look rather good alongside my brand new copy of PoM) 😉

A question about the Chronological placing of the 2 stories.

Am I right in thinking AP is set after “The Infernal Machine”? If so, which Year 1 episode is PoM set after?

Looking forward to Zack’s Happy Dance! B)

Yippie!!! :side: :silly: 😛 :cheer: :silly:
Sorry, I just can’t do it the way Zack does. But I am happy we’re so close to another Space: 1999 book.

The most recent info I had/have sets it between DD and ToA.

excellent! My mouse finger has started twitching in anticipation of clicking the BUY button on Lulu…
and a full wrap cover. very nice. that cool blue coloring makes it one of my favorite covers by far

All the parts of Phoenix are now in a single file: title page, copyright page, “books by”, dedication, foreword, second title page, manuscript, and “about the author”. The cover artwork and layout is done. Both just need to be formatted to Lulu’s specs (a lot of work).

We are just waiting on a foreword for The Powysverse Compendium, and then formatting.

Both books are very close to release. I am now going back to work on The Whispering Sea.

I don’t think I have expressed this enough, but many, many thanks to you for all of the time and hard work you put into getting these books out to all of us. You and Bill Latham, along with all of your writers and artists, put so much time and effort into these books… obviously a true labor of love, as I can’t imagine any of you are getting rich off of this. So, even though all of us on this forum are clamoring for more books, please except my humble thanks and know that I really appreciate all that you have done and continue to do for us.

Let me echo these thoughts…I just pop in here to check on the various books’ status from time to time, and I am very glad to hear of the upcoming releases. Thanks Mateo, Bill, Pat, and everyone for help keeping Space:1999 alive.

It’s an understatement to say it’s nice to know people like the books. It really makes it all worthwhile–and no, no one is getting rich off of them.

It’s just as much a thrill for me to see new 1999 books on the shelf as it is for anyone else–and now there are quite a few! I’ve said it before, it all started with recurring dreams I had since seeing the show. I’d be traveling home (usually a school field trip) on a bus. It would stop along the way to gas up and allow people to eat lunch. I’d go into a local store and see:

Space: 1999 TDHJKLW WKHEUS
by John Rankine

First I’d see a title I’d never heard of before (I didn’t get all the titles until my late teens), THEN I’d notice the cover said:

#14 in the spectacular new science fiction epic

14?!!

THEN I’d see another book: #17!! I was shocked and thrilled to know there were more books past Phoenix of Megaron!

THEN I’d realize I didn’t have any money and it was time to get back on the bus–and I had no idea what town we were in, nor the name of the store…panic and…

THEN I’d wake up. 🙂

NOW when I wake up I can see a row of them–for real–on my shelf. And a couple of audiobooks too!

BTW, in the dreams, I’d always read the back cover text to see what the books were about, but could NEVER remember either the title or the plot summary when I woke up! D’oh!!

Apart from that silly beginning, I am most thrilled by the chance to work with such great authors, people who give the books their all and who are also NOT getting rich of them by any means. To discuss the plots, read the various draft manuscripts and finally to see the books in print, is a real joy.

Cesar and Ken’s covers are also a thrill I look forward to–beautiful images and, of course, the ONLY ones! All the rest must be supplied by your imaginations.

Finally, to have forewords by Johnny Byrne, Prentis Hancock, Barry Morse, J. Michael Straczynski, Michael Butterworth, Catherine Schell, Christopher Penfold, John Mason, and Zienia Merton! Even I have to say: WOW!!

All I can say is “more to come”. Well, that and much thanks to everyone who has helped make these books a reality: the fans, the editors and proofreaders, the cast and crew, the authors, the artists, the narrators, the wonderful people at ITV and our licensing agency…and I want to thank the Academy! 😛 Just kidding!

And thanks to Bill, for being there every step of the way. I don’t say it enough. It’s been years since we’ve been in the same STATE (!), but his help and advice are invaluable.

I just want to say, as having worn both the hat of an impatient reader & a writer now, it is an amazing amount of work to get a book out.

My step-by-step observation…

1: write book
2: wonder what the heck you were thinking/drinking
3: edit
4: put in drawer for a week
5: read/cringe
6: notice all the American cultural references & wonder if they will be lost on an international readership/send to off-shore friend for opinion
7: cross fingers and hope Hollywood has managed to infiltrate most of the free world
8: send to editor & resume normal life
9: receive beautifully formatted PDF/book
10: send to proofreaders
11: receive notification that item 2 was not appropriately addressed & realize you can’t spell/use proper punctuation/grammar
12: reconcile differences between American and UK/former colony proofreaders
13: have husband/family ask when the heck you’re going to be done
14: repeat 13 as necessary
15: send back to editor and hope for the best
16: admire Ken Scott genius when he makes your cover
17: wait with baited breath as the rest of the readership is becoming anxious

That’s as far as I’ve gotten.
I’ll let you know how it goes. 🙂

-Pat.

Mateo,
I used to have those same kind of dreams when I young! Except they were about Star Wars instead of Space: 1999. I would be at some store and see a rack of novels and issues of the Marvel comic book that I didn’t know existed…and I didn’t have enough money for them all, maybe not even one.

And I still have dreams 25-30 years later of watching a Land of the Lost episode that I somehow had never seen before. It’s amazing the impressions our youthful fixations continue to have on us as adults.
