Twenty years or so ago I found copies of the three Prisoner novels Ace published about twenty years earlier. The first one, by Thomas Disch, was a strange book, one that was, in a way, about the show as much as it was a recreation of it, as much a mindbender as the last couple of episodes of the TV series. The other two novels were much more conventional and could probably have been reworked somewhat to work for another TV series (one of the two authors wrote several Man From UNCLE novels, for example).
The Prisoner’s Dilemma isn’t as experimental as Disch’s novel, but it works wonderfully well. And that’s despite the challenges the writers faced this time around — writing in a time when The Prisoner is a highly respected cult hit, and also in a time when the world has changed considerably from the time of the original. As I recall, The Prisoner’s Dilemma felt completely true to the original series while also working in a number of elements that reflect the changes in the world. It must have been a tricky tightrope to walk, but it worked really well. It was a great start for a new series of Prisoner novels — to be honest, I found it a more satisfying read than the first of Powys’s Space: 1999 novels. (Not saying that one was bad, it just wasn’t as good and as remarkable as The Prisoner’s Dilemma was.)
Here’s hoping for more Prisoner books, and more books of this degree of quality.

Get your facts right before you start having a go at people Matthew. This is NOT a Fan Fiction site, and as for you being a “Fan” – people like you give “Fans” a bad name.
Get off the site & stay off it.
Honestly, bloody internet Trolls. Pain in the a*se the lot of them.
