Slightly off-topic — I watched a really fine documentary last night on Netflix Instant Download called Nightmares in Red, White, and Blue — basically the history of horror films in America. Overall, one of the best documentaries of its type that I’ve seen. Some of the folks interviewed include John Carpenter, George A. Romero, Joe Dante, and Roger Corman.

One other interviewee on the show was a standout (and I’m pretty sure got the most screentime of them all), offering some really great commentary on a wide variety of subjects. Insightful, fresh, and putting things into the cultural context that makes horror films a great way to tap into the zeitgeist of each decade, all with the enthusiasm that most critics just…lack.

His name?

John Kenneth Muir! Way to go, John! Far as I’m concerned, you stole that movie, dude! Somebody sign this guy up to replace Oprah! I started watching it not even knowing John was in the darned thing. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the heads up. I like these kind of documentaries anyway, but to have one of our own involved makes it a must-see in my book. I will definitely seek it out.

On another note, it’s nice to have some activity on these boards. C’mon, everyone, let’s keep the spirit alive while we wait for more books and audiobooks from Powys!

Wow!

Thank you Bill, for such kind and supportive words about my appearance in the horror documentary Nightmares in Red, White and Blue. I was honored to be involved in that project, and even more honored that you appreciated what I had to say. To quote Boogie Nights: “I’m a big, bright shining star…”

Kidding! No, seriously, it was great to be included in the show and to have the opportunity to talk about horror films, one of my favorite topics alongside Space:1999.

It was really great to read this affirmative comment. I stuck my head out into the world while writing “The Whispering Sea” and saw a mention of the film’s title here. I appreciate your words and support very much.

Now, back to Moonbase Alpha, a water planet, and the Ekimmu…

Best,
John K. Muir

Hey, JK! Good to see you here. Don’t be a stranger like Mateo! 🙂

Hi Enik,

Love your handle. I’m a big fan of Land of the Lost as well as Space:1999, and have been trying without success to get Mateo to license the property for new orignal LOTL novels! 🙂

I plan to stick around, assuming I don’t get kicked out.

best wishes,
John K. Muir

JK,

Whoa, I was thinking the same thing! Land of the Lost licensed novels or story collections would be a dream come true. Mateo, get on that! 🙂 I’ll one-up Zack and do the Sleestak dance!

If anyone’s interested, I’ve done “episode studies/chronologies” of Land of the Lost and other genre universes on my website PopApostle. I intend to do Space: 1999 at some point.
