Koenig wins the favorite poll by a nose, followed by Helena Russell. Victor Bergman and Maya tie for third.

Now, tell us your LEAST favorite character.

And remember, we LOVE all the actors — we’re talking characters here.

For me it’s hard to identify favorite and least favorite characters because of the amount of screen time they got. It’s easier to identify with characters you learn a lot about, like the leads.

In the series we learned less about Mathias, Sandra and Fraser, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be great to showcase and define better in a novel.

When I vote in this poll I will feel like the Angel of Death, condeming a character to obscurity in a future novel.

I’m probably making a bigger deal out of this than it is, and of course I really don’t know how the results of the poll will be used.

The easy answer, Yasko, is not even a choice. The others each have their strengths and uses in the episodes/stories, so the decision is not so obvious. Hmm…

Have to say, I am going for Paul. I think he had the most under developed character in all of year 1. He was just kind of a “black sun” to me … no personality could escape him 🙂 No fault with the actor, would have been interesting how they would have tried to “humanize” him in year two.

I really liked Winters in The Infernal Machine. So wonderfully dry. Too bad Paul didn’t…what was it?…break an ankle…? more often.

I think the actor they got to play Winters was great. For a one-shot he really pulled it off in a believable fashion. However, I am really fond of Paul Morrow and I think Prentis Hancock was not given enough opportunities to really shine as an actor. His big moment was in The Last Sunset–he totally dominates that episode!

I also liked him in Earthbound and Mission of the Darians (and many others, but those in particular).

Sadly, so much was lost in the changeover to Year Two, losing Bergman, Morrow, Kano, really hurt the show. However, I liked Verdeschi, Fraser and Maya too. But they are very different–Y1 and Y2–in tone, in atmosphere, in direction, in characterization, and perhaps most prominently in music. I love both Barry Gray’s and Derek Wadsworth’s scores, but they are each only appropriate for their respective seasons.

So would Paul have worked in Year Two? Who can tell?

With the books, we are striving to tell stores with a Year One tone and style, even those that include characters from Year Two. The developments in Born for Adversity suggest clearly what we are trying to get away from.

While I suppose it was easier at the last moment to just drop in a one-off character to speak Paul’s lines, I have always thought it would have made a lot more sense to allow Kano to take command. I would have enjoyed watching his dry wit play out in that situation.

I’m really suprised by the poll voting. Favourite character was an easy decision – we all have our favouries 🙂

BUT least favourite… I can’t believe Kano and Mathias are up there with so many votes…to me they were crucial supporting characters and I loved them both.

My Least Favourite would have to be Dave Reilly ( All that Glistens )- he still drives me mad everytime I watch him, with that dreadful Irish accent and his stupod cowboy hat. What was that all about anyway

He wasn’t on the list…but he would have had my vote if he had been!
