Having not yet finished “Chasing the Cyclops” (I’m enjoying it immensely – but there’s a LOT of stuff in their that has made me sit back, stop & think! Yes, it’s THAT involving!) I thought it might be helpful (in the context of discussing/understanding the philosophy behind SPACE: 1999 & The MUF(‘s) in particular) to suggest that, in addition to CTC, you might like to read/watch/listen to the following:
Commentary on Dragon’s Domain by Johnny Byrne and Christopher Penfold (much discussion regarding the MUF and the writers discuss, at length, the ideas/concepts behind their work) – on the A&E (Region 1) 30th Anniversary Megaset Bonus Disc

Interviews with Johnny Byrne & Christopher Penfold – on the Italian SPAZIO: 1999 Year 1 Box Set
http://www.space1999.net/catacombs/main/merc/vmvdvdit.html
(I suggest you buy the “Collectors Editions” as these are just superb!)
Interviews with Johnny Byrne & Christopher Penfold as part of the excellent “These Episodes” Featurette/Documentary (the featurette can be found on the Network Series 1 Special Edition DVD version…

…and the greatly expanded Documentary can be found on the Network Blu Ray release)

DESTINATION: MOONBASE ALPHA – Book, available from Telos Publishing in the UK. An essential purchase. There’re many insightful and provocative contributions from both Chris & Johnny on the subject, taken from various interviews given by the two men over the years.
The insights offered by both men, are fascinating. Watched/read in tandem with CTC and the key episodes of the MUF Year 1 story arc…
Breakaway,
Black Sun,
Another Time, Another Place,
Collision Course,
Dragon’s Domain &
The Testament of Arkadia…one cannot fail to be convinced of the genius behind the concepts presented by Gerry & Sylvia Anderson’s supreme science fiction odyssey. Left in the hands of Powys Media, I firmly believe that the series has finally, in literary form, fulfilled the awesome potential & promise present in so many episodes of the TV series.
Here’s to the continuation of SPACE: 1999 and to future releases B)

Can we quote you on that?? That is high praise, and we thank you for it!

“Steve Foster, England, UK – SPACE: 1999 Fan that nobody’s ever heard of.” perhaps?

January 23, 2011 at 3:04 am #1757Ally DaviesParticipantIs this the thread for CTC… ?? I’m actually in a bit of a daze at the moment :silly: :side: 😆
I’ve just this minute finished reading it for the second time ( I read it the initially whilst skiing over the New Year holiday and I have to admit didn’t really do it justice at the time).
My conclusion…It’s fascinating and absorbing and mindblowing to say the very least !!
Mateo and BL – I already knew that a lot of time and effort had gone into creating the Powys books but I had no real appreciation of quite how much !!!!!
CTC is like every other thing in the powysverse – constructed and written with such skill and on so many levels that it’s easy to loose yourself within it. I wasn’t expecting that from a non-fiction book. I wasn’t expecting it to be so indepth. You can’t read it without getting involved…well I didn’t seem able to anyway !! I’ve been looking things up and doing web searches and I even found myself making notes the other day ( maybe I’m taking it a little to seriously – who knows ) but this evening I managed to finish it for the second time and I can have to say again that I’ve found myself in awe of what Powys has managed to achieve.
…oh…and did I mention that it also made me laugh…not sure if it was supposed to…but it did  😆 BL – you can be very funny at times…
January 23, 2011 at 4:00 am #1767William LathamKeymasterIn Joe Pesci voice: Funny how? 😆
Mateo says the same thing. You have to laugh sometimes!
Cyclops probably wouldn’t exist without folks like you, Ally — always knew you’d want to read it! Just didn’t know if anyone else would!
