Thanks for the info, Alphan 4ever. I’ve thought several times over the years of joining Fanderson. They have released a few very interesting exclusives that I would love to own, including the two E.C. Tubb books and the 2-disc Year One and Two soundtracks. However, I’m just not that big a fan of most of Gerry Anderson’s shows — [i]Space: 1999[/i] obviously being the exception — so I have never been able to justify the rather high price of joining Fanderson and then paying even more for the few items in which I am interested. Plus, most of those items are limited issues and go out of print rather quickly, so I cannot even count on joining Fanderson one time and collecting those items I want. I keep hoping those few Fanderson items I want will pop up some time on eBay, but they are very rare.

Being a fan of 1970s sci-fi fantasy and action can be an expensive hobby. Just this fall, alone, I am looking at purchasing the Blu-ray release of [i]Space: 1999[/i] Season 1, the DVD release of [i]The Six Million Dollar Man[/i] Complete Series from Time Life Video (one of my other favorite 1970s shows), the Powys release of Year One, etc, etc, etc. While I would love to join Fanderson, I just have to draw the line somewhere. As much as I enjoy spending money on my hobbies and passions, others unfortunately also want my money (like the electric company, the insurance company, the grocery store, the gas station, etc, etc, etc).

Anyway, it might be interesting to hear from others about their [i]Space:1999[/i] collections. What do others have? What are you searching for? What do you hope to come across? Maybe some of you have ideas on where to find these elusive collectibles.

I’ve been collecting Space 1999 merchandise since the show was first on the air. I have an extensive collection and now pretty much wait for each new item to come up. I got most of my stuff from e-bay over the years and I am going to let you guys in on a little search tip. Don’t just search for Space 1999, look for Spazio 1999, Cosmos 1999, Mondbasis Alpha and all of the other names of the show in different countries. I got most of my European releasxe books this way and they were very cheap, only a few Euros each. 🙂
I don’t think for a minute that I have everything but I have filled all of my heart wrenching yearnings of, “I have always wanted that since I was a little kid!” and I am now running out of space to keep everything on display… 🙁
Fanderson is a very good source of new collectables and they do release quite a lot of 1999 related stuff. It is lucky that I like most of Gerry Anderson’s stuff and I can justify the cost of membership. Just a point on membership, it covers 4 issues of the club magazine not a year. So, if they publish 4 mags in 2 years, that’s how long your membership will last.
If anyone is collecting the Sunicrust 1999 cards, I do have doubles of some cards if people need to make up a set. I also have doubles of the english novelisations but I see these are on e-bay again so you can probably get those there.
