Our postman is getting seriously worried. I can see it in his eyes as he approaches our front door.

’Why is she waiting for me again today? Why does she have that mad excited glint in her eyes again?'

I’ll tell you why…It’s because Lulu sent me a shipping email yesterday and I know my new Space 1999 book is on its way!

    Today…Tuesday 9th February…our lovely postman…just delivered… Born For Adversity 🙂

I have it in my hands…and its beautiful. Another wonderful cover! I’ve read Catherine Schells foreward and now I have to get through the day until I can sit down later and give it the total concentration it deserves.

Thank you Powys & Lulu for making me so happy !!

Now comes the part where I’m bricking it in the hope that everybody doesn’t hate it!

I can only speak for myself, of course, but I’m sure you’ve nothing to worry about !

The mere anticipation of a new Space 1999 adventure has made my day !!

Is it just us or are Procyonstar’s updates on her ongoing saga with the mail delivery folks in her neighborhood every bit as entertaining as the books themselves?

 Stupid snowstorm. Airports closed – not sure if mail delivery even HAPPENED today. What’s that about “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” ? Apparently the Eastern Seaboard turning into Ultima Thule is a problem…Sigh. Perhaps on the week-end…

I just got my copy yesterday. I’ve finished the first two chapters. Looks very exciting. Definately the Year Three premiere that we lost out on, back in 1977.

I just got my copies of Shepherd Moon and Born for Adversity yesterday. I am biased, but they look great. I put them on a shelf with my Year One and Year Two novelizations. Fun. I was surprised at the thickness of BfA, having only read it on computer screen or coil bound editing copy.

David and everyone at Powys look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts on the novel. Please follow the rules on SPOILERS but don’t be afraid to post. Love Catherine Schell’s foreword too!

Especially with the sort of phrases we’ve seen in the “congratulations” thread so far – y’know, “fantastic”, “brilliant”, “please do another one”, that kind of thing…

Eleven days since the Lulu shipping notice and no BfA yet. That may not be an unusually long time for a Lulu shipment to Canada (I think it’s usually a week or two), but damn, I feel like I’ve been waiting long enough already.

ETA: two days later and here it is!

I’ve finished BFA and plan to post more on it in the coming days. Perhaps you’d like to expand on your comments in the meantime – I’m sure the author, David McIntee, (as well as Mateo) would like to hear more than just ’terrific!!’ – pleased though I’m sure they are to receive such enthusiastic praise….. 🙂

I dunno, “terrific” sounds good to me. Better than “it sucks” or anything…

I absolutely loved 99% of this novel. It was what I had been waiting for as a Year 3 story. I loved that other previous characters were mentioned and brought into the story.

Well, I found that Maya was rather uninvolved. She seemed absent where she should have been active. Sometimes she was mentioned in passing, where I think she should have been there presently. She seemed rather low-key and depressed, unlike her appearance on the television episodes. I expected her to be much more prominent, considering the personal interest she should have taken in the other Psychons. When the Psychons were first discovered, no one seemed very surprised or exciited.

For the most part, I loved pretty much the entire novel. It truly was what I would have loved to have seen in a Year 3 episode. I loved the mention of previous characters and explanations for the many “coincidences”. It made it seem more realistic.

It made sense how Hawks were brought into the story. It was something we fans would love to see and it was very believeable.

The new aliens were great, their awesome descriptions making them very real and refreshingly different.

As for the ending, I was disappointed in the change in Maya. I understand the reasoning, but don’t think it was necessary. I would have preferred if Psyche had simply caused a change in Maya that allowed her to become pregnant.

Towards the end of the novel, it seemed to jump around too quickly and it was kind of confusing following what was happening.

Most of the times the characters were “in character”, even with their known phrases (I could almost hear them saying the lines) though a few times seemed unrecognizeable.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved BFA and had a hard tiem putting it down. Looking forward to reading OMEGA.

Purely deliberate- remember the book is set a good couple of years after we last saw her on screen, and issues have had that long to get her down…
