Amazing! I posted a pic of the AP cover on facebook and one of my friends messaged asking if there were new 1999 books and why I hadn’t told them before this? I didn’t even know they were a fan of 1999… 🙂
You may have a new customer. :woohoo:

At this rate we will all be requesting that the original novelisations be reprinted with shiny new covers and uncreased spines if only to make our bookshelves look all neat and tidy. After all where do we put this book? Next to the old Android planet? That just doesn’t seem right somehow. I think I will be the first to request a full reprinting of all of the original novelisations based upon the Year one and two omnibuses so we can have a nice new shelf of crisp, white paged, uncreased spine shiny new books with spectacular new and exiting covers… 🙂

Something to think about Mateo… 😛

a really good reason why these books should have been re-titled.
they could have had the new titles, and in small print underneath “previously released as XXX”

    I second Zack’s motion.

    OK.

I manged to read the first 10 pages on the bus home from work before my friend arrived.

    THE GOOD POINTS (imho):
The novel is immediately engaging. The prose style is colourful and enjoyable to read. Everything feels fresh and interesting. The characterisations are spot on and the setting (preparation for a Gilbert and Sullivan performance) brings out unexpected nuances of the Year 1 characters which I found delightful. The inclusion of Computer, the focus on Kano and the continuity with “Voyager’s Return” is also pleasing.
THE BAD POINTS:

    I’m sorry to say… there’re typo’s. Several in fact… and I’m only 10 pages in 🙁

My friend has gone home and I’m off to bed. I’m desperate to read more as i think this is going to be a wonderful read… but the typo’s are glaring and do “take you out” of the story when they occur imo, which is a shame.

Still, on the whole, 9 out of 10 (knocking a point off purely for the Typo’s).

Oh… and is it me… or is Ken’s artwork darker on the printed cover? The Eagle is more in shadow, losing some of the CGI detailing, which is a shame. It’s still a stand out cover though B)

Just some early feedback. I’m just SO glad it’s here.

Tomorow night, I will return to Moonbase Alpha, hop aboard an Eagle and journey to… The Android Planet :woohoo: I honestly can’t wait! 🙂

Send me the typos and we’ll fix them! Please note the page number. Believe me, we checked and checked, nevertheless they always get through.

I’ve started highlighting them as I spot them. I’m going to start reading AP from the beggining tonight. I won’t be rushing then. I’ll mark them off with a highlighter pen as I go along.

One that sticks in my mind is when Kano lifts his Comm-lock for a one to one with Koenig.

In the book it says something like “from a one to one with Koenig”. For has been replaced with From (a common Spellcheck error). I groaned when I read it and thought: “Uh oh. Mateo will hate me when I tell him there are typo’s”. And after all the hours you put in trying to get rid of them… 🙁

Still, let’s get this into perspective. Typo’s are a minor iritation whereas the arrival of a new, SPACE: 1999 novel from Powys (well, new from my POV as I haven’t read the original) is a cause for celebration imho! B) :woohoo:
