Martin Wiley always mentions this magazine on his “What’s New” page on the Catacombs website when a new issue is released:

I recently bought issues 3 through 13 *purely* for the SPACE: 1999 content. I’m so glad I did! 😉 issues 1 & 2 seem not to be available anywhere, sadly 🙁 but so far, I’ve read all the SPACE: 1999 content of issues 3 through 5 as well as the “on set & behind the scenes” during the filming of the Year 2 episode “The Dorcons” article in issue 9 (the ending of the article had me feeling just as frustrated & gutted as the writer who was there at the time!). The humour used throughout has already reduced me to fits of hysterics several times this evening! 😆 there’s serious, in depth analysis of all Gerry & Syvia’s series including SPACE: 1999 as well as a lot of very funny jokes & p*ss taking (all done in an affectionate manner that leaves you thinking: “Yeah, that’s what makes so and so series so brilliant”).

Highlights for me so far are Koenig’s LOL diaries from Year 2. Here’s what John wrote in his diary 403 days after leaving Eath’s orbit:

”Thawed out little boy and girl from Planet Spandex. Things going OK until I got a sudden urge to gun down Master Spandex. Bad move. Told him my finger slipped. Ungrateful tyke took it badly. Was only demonstrating nice new laser. Brat used magic powers to kidnap H & Tony V.” 😆

The article “Artificial Intelligence Test” in issue 5, pits Gwent from Year 1 against Brian the Brain from Year 2 in a quiz show hosted by John Koenig! It’s very funny imho!

In issue 4, there’s a made-up programme listing (that you would have found at the time in any British TV listings magazine). I love how they described “The Beta Cloud”:

A mystery illness strikes Alpha. Unconvincing hirsute aliens with no discernable motivation run amok. And no-one cares because they’re watching BBC1. 😆

What I’ve written here doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. The SPACE: 1999 episode reviews are excellent championing all that’s good about the episodes in question & being very honest about the bits that aren’t! 😉

A thoroughly brilliant magazine & highly recomended for its SPACE: 1999 content alone!
