Just out of curiosity, will these Space:1999 novels be released sometime this year? I saw the titles listed in The Catacombs website.

We’ll post information about these titles as it becomes available. We’ve got our hands full with the current slate of releases, but once they’re out, we’ll start work on the next wave of books.

Thought you’d like to know. I am meeting with Cesar Gallegos tomorrow to give a final review of the artwork for the Resurrection audiobook. I had a few concerns about the clarity of the astromical image on the front cover, and he is working on it.
Those of you outside the Chicano community…that would be EVERYBODY 😛 …may not be aware that February is the month in which the annual Cuauhtemoc Ceremony is held. As Cesar is a Danzante Azteca (Aztec Dancer) he is preparing for the more than day-long ceremony. So we don’t have a firm date yet.
In other news, next month I will be making an announcement about the next wave of books to be released including John Kenneth Muir’s The Whispering Sea. Exciting!

We’re still working on the website–although it takes a back seat to getting the books out. Today, with a lot of help from Martin (THANKS!) I put up a picture grid with all of Powys Media’s Space: 1999 and Prisoner novels including the forthcoming Omega. Sorta brightens up the place! 😉
I read somewhere that actor Shane Rimmer(Kelly from ‘Space Brain’)wrote a couple of unused scripts for Space:1999. By any chance, does anyone know what the storylines were for those two unfilmed scripts?
If anyone has any information, is it possible that these two could be adapted into two seperate novels(i.e. like the proposed Children Of The Gods novelization)?
Another question I have concerns the original Year Two novels that were published in Germany.
Are there any plans to translate them into English and have them(along with the Year One originals from Pocket)established in the Space:1999 continuity/canon in the near future?

We don’t know anything about Shane Rimmer scripts. The person to ask would be Martin over at the Catacombs–if anyone knows, he does.
As for the German original novels, I can definitively say that Powys is not planning on republishing them. I would venture to say that they are probably now incompatible with the continuity we’ve establish with Born for Adversity and, now, with the publication of Omega.
We still have the Resurrection audio book to get out next month (March). Once we do that, we’ll post about upcoming Powys plans. It’s been a hectic few months to say the least. Three books in five weeks!

But I can tell you that to try to tie them into the Powys continuity would take a ton of work.
Most of the books make heavy use the characters Mark Macinlock and Jameson, who were only in the early versions of The Metamorph. It’s a bit odd to have both Alan and Mark running around together and it would make it tough to just substitute Carter for Macinlock in the writing.
With Book 7, The Andromeda Mystery, the story is highly dependent on the interstitial story information of the original version of Edge of the Infinite. With all of Michael Butterworth’s additions and amendments thoroughly excised in the Year 2 omnibus, the basis for the entire story is lost. The novel also ties in with alterations that were made to the ending of just the German version of the book.
Book 11, Operation Exodus, should just be thrown out and completely ignored – as it bears little resemblance to Space: 1999.
Book 12, which ends the show, would need the last couple of pages deleted (along with all the other changes) to make it fit.
Personally, I think it would be best to leave them as they are, artifacts of the time. To be taken as originally intended.
Regarding Shane Rimmer, he was interviewed many years ago for the old [b]SIG[/b] magazine that was affiliated to Fanderson. In it, I’m pretty sure I recall him saying that he wrote a couple of scripts for [b]Space:1999[/b] and was paid for them but that they never got made.
I think it was the first season he was talking about; and with people like Johnny Byrne and – for a time anyway – Christopher Penfold around, there was probably a good reason why the scripts were junked.
Some times, things [i]are[/i] better left alone.

For whatever it is worth, in case anyone reading this thread is not aware, there are plot summaries of the six original Y2 novels from Germany, and in the case of the first three, [i]partial[/i] translations — namely of the first one to two dozen pages of each. Note: As far as I can tell, however, there does not appear to have been further translation work for some time.
