Not sure how many folks on this forum are interested, but I just read some news concerning Space: 1999 Year 2 being remastered and released on Blu-ray, perhaps by the end of the year. Since Year 1 was remastered and released on DVD (in practically every country EXCEPT the United States) several years ago, there have been rumors and hopes that Year 2 would eventually follow suit. As many of you probably know, Year 1 was released on Blu-ray a couple of months ago. I can tell you, it looks absolutely amazing!!!!!
:woohoo: :silly: :woohoo:Now it looks like Year 2 will get a similar remastering and will come out on Blu-ray as well. Awesome, awesome news!!!
🙂 :cheer:  :woohoo:To read more about it, check out this link: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Space-1999-Season-2-Blu-ray/14966

Can’t wait to see Y2 in HD. It’s like seeing the show for the first time.

Not true?
I read a very detailed review of both the US and UK versions of Year 1 on Blu-ray after they both came out (can’t remember where, but it was a very good and detailed review). For the most part, the two sets are nearly identical, and the episodes on both sets were taken from the same high def masters. There are some minor extras missing from the US version, but they are fairly insignificant. Most of the bonus features are intact on the US set. It is a magnificent set, and a collector’s dream. I hope they do as great a job remastering Year 2 and coming up with so many exceptional extras.

1. English subtitles
2. A booklet containing a Gerry Anderson introduction, production history article, another article about the remastering of Y1
3. Some PDFs of scripts, Annuals, a flyer and some episode synopses
4. A short segment on Space: 1999’s visual effects produced by the BBC
5. A commercial for Lyons Maid “ice lollies”.If anyone needs subtitles the UK Blu-rays are region free so they will work on any Blu-ray player. The two bonus DVDs are not region free, however.
An episode list by disc is included on the reverse side of the UK box cover, but the episode titles are not printed on the discs themselves. A&E, however, did print the titles on the discs so they did not provide an episode list insert
January 30, 2011 at 11:07 pm #1835Michael KincaidParticipantDoes anyone know do you need a high definition tv and cable cord in order to play the Space:1999 bluray and what is a good bluray player that will support the dics. Many thanks. Michael 🙂

It certainly helps to have a TV set that is 1080P ready in order to see the Blu Ray episodes the way they are meant to be seen in true high definition. Nearly all current flat screen sets on the market have that capability.
As for a Blu Ray player it depends on whether you are going to buy the Blu Ray Network set or the A&E box set.
If you plan to purchase the A&E set, then I recommend any Blu Ray player that can play both Blu Ray discs and standard DVD. Most Blu Ray players have that capability. I have an LG player that is just wonderful.
If you plan to purchase the Network set, then you should consider buying a multi-regional Blu Ray player. There are a number of online vendors who sell these. It will allow you to watch any Blu Rays or standard DVDs from around the world.
I have a Pioneer model that I use at home and the school I teach film at. I can attest to the fact that they are very dependable.
I hope this helps you out.
Best
David
January 31, 2011 at 4:34 pm #1843Steve FosterParticipantI have purchased the Year 1 Blu Ray from Network. Discs 6 & 7 are standard definition DVD’s and play without any problems on my multi region DVD player.
Alas, having found that to upgrade my TV & get a decent single region Blu Ray player & cable would set me back £600 or more… my Blu Ray version will have to remain on the shelf. In the meantime, I’ll continue to enjoy the Series 1 Special Edition DVD that Network released a few years back and pop the Blu Ray DVD’s in if I want to watch the Special Features.
Would dearly LOVE to see the High Definition, Digitally Restored version of “The Metamorph” on Blu Ray though 🙁
If Network released Year 2 on Blu Ray, I would definately buy it pointless as that may seem as one day, I WILL upgrade to Blu Ray but it’s not cost effective for me to do that at the mo and I’d like the Players, Leads and HD TV’s to come down in price first.
