So, I just finished watching Space: 1999 Year Two (which I’ve never watched before) entirely on my iPad. It was an interesting experience. Now I’m ready to jump into the 1999 universe in a big way. I have every Space: 1999 title going all the way back to the beginning, many of which I’ve never read.

But now that many of them (including most of the Powysverse titles) fall into the category of “valuable collector’s items,” I find myself reluctant to read them. It’s a dilemma!

Since getting an iPad last spring, I’ve taken to reading a lot of e-books. A lot! So, what could be more natural than reading the Space: 1999 books on my iPad.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like any of them are available as e-texts.

Has there been any consideration to making Powys titles available as e-books: Kindle, iBooks, Nook, Fictionwise? There are now a bunch of vendors that make their titles available across an array of platforms, including iPad. I think even Lulu has an e-book option.

Seems like an obvious way to sell more books. I’d probably buy them all again as e-books, just so I could keep my hard copies pristine and unread.

E- books would work for me too…not to replace the actual book – I would still have to have the book – but it would be a great way of having them always at my fingertips!

Simon, I think, always buys two copies of every book to allow him to keep one pristine copy and have one to read. I wish I’d thought of that from the beginning.

I’m terrified every time I get out my copy of Year Two – it’s almost too incredible to read 🙂

Our contract with ITV prohibits the release of material in electronic formats, including e-books. It is not an option. Sorry. That’s why our audiobooks are sold on discs and not as downloads.

    Wow. What a weird prohibition.

I imagine ITV’ll figure it out in another decade or so, when physical books are only printed as Limited Edition Collectibles, and everybody reads from some kind of e-reader. 😉

Yeah, I’m surprised that they’d care whether you distribute your own books digitally or not. I mean, it isn’t like they’re going to distribute them that way, right? Any idea the reason?

My guess is that the contract was created before Kindle, eReaders and Nooks were all the rage, and they were trying to prevent you from creating a video version, or something.

I think it is really worth getting a clarification on that one, mateo. Sci-fi and e-readers are good matches. Recently, my own books seem to be selling more in that medium than printed form. Some writers claim to have made small fortunes that way. Smaller pool of competition, easier to fix errors and you never have to worry about it going out of print. (I realize you get some of those benefits from going the lulu route too…but still…worth looking into.)

    Just my two cents.
