December 25, 2010 at 9:17 pm #1561Scott LindvallParticipantGood morning, everyone. I, too, would like to wish everyone in the Space: 1999 community out there a very joyous Christmas and holiday season, no matter your religion. May the new year bring everyone peace and happiness.
I just noticed that it was Christmas Day last year that I discovered the newly resurrected Powys site and signed up for this forum. It has been a fun year, and I have really enjoyed reading others’ words and passions about this little British nugget in the rough we know as Space: 1999. I loved this program back in the 1970s, and even went to the very first convention back in 1978 in Columbus, Ohio. I was 17 at the time and I remember riding a Greyhound bus all night from my hometown in Wisconsin to attend. It was so cool meeting Martin Landau, Nick Tate, Barry Gray, David Prowse (a monster in one episode, but of course better known by that time as Darth Vader) and so many other people who shared my passion for this quirky little science fiction show.
Of course, time moves on and over the years I moved on to other things — college, a career, a family, and all of life’s little ups and downs. Most of my collectibles and books were lost or sold over the course of many moves. Space: 1999 sort of faded away, but I never forgot it. Then, low and behold, 30-some years later I discover a series of books from some outfit called Powys Media that had an ambitious plan to release a new series of original Space: 1999 novels. It really excited me, but by the time I accidently discovered the old website, the company had appeared to have gone belly up. Ah well, I thought, nice try, but who besides me even remembers that old, kooky show. Fortunately, I was wrong about both Powys Media and Space: 1999.
As I wrote earlier, I discovered Powys was back on Christmas Day one year ago. I was playing around on the internet, checking out things that still hold my interest and came across the new site, with a promise of new books and Powys’ biggest upcoming year yet. The last year has been amazing for me — rediscovering and rekindling my fondness for one of my favorite shows from my youth. Even better, I have seen the number of people joining this website’s forum grow since last Christmas, and it was incredible to know there are so many people out there who not only still remember Space: 1999, but still embrace it passionately enough to continually post about it here. I have loved reading what everyone has had to say these past 12 months, as much as I have enjoyed getting and reading the entire line of Powys’ books. I have been lucky enough to locate all of the early books (at reasonable prices), and have gotten everything released this year.
So, as grateful as I am to Mateo, Bill, and everyone else involved in writing and producing this great line of books and audiobooks (and I am very grateful for this labor of love all of you have put into this for so many years), I also want to thank everyone who has joined and posted to these forums. Even more than the books alone could do, all of you have helped me rediscover a big part of my youth I long thought was gone.
Thank you, and blessed wishes for a beautiful holiday season and prosperous 2011.

December 26, 2010 at 4:57 am #1564Glenn McCrabbParticipantHello to all the people who populate the Powysverse both real and fictional. I’m just back from Christmas at my parents where I had a very relaxing time with family and friends. I hope that the same can be said for you wherever you are. Let’s hope that 2011 brings us a better year all round, with more joy, prosperity and Space 1999 novels for us all. 🙂
Peace friends. B)
