Powys Media will soon be undergoing a change. Our releases are rapidly becoming more diverse, and we will be releasing new works under different imprints.
Our science fiction and other literary fiction will be released under the our main imprint: POWYS MEDIA. This includes all our Space: 1999, The Prisoner, and The House Between novels and audiobooks as well as novels like Mary’s Monster.
Our music releases will be under the imprint POWYS SOIL. These include the soundtrack to The House Between and the forthcoming set of four EPs from Tecamachalco Underground (TKU).
Art, Photography, Poetry will be under the imprint POWYS MAREA. This will include the forthcoming Locus and Anima: Portraits of Manchester by Rachel McFarlane
Finally, Powys will be publishing poetry by new and established Chicano and Anahuac poets under the imprint POWYS TLATOA.

Just wonderin’. I mean, do you guys sit around a pizza throwing around ideas?

August 10, 2010 at 6:34 pm #1170Mateo LatosaKeymasterI chose SOIL because I wanted something elemental, and I love everything about Vangelis’s “Soil Festivities”.
I wanted something to do with the sea for our art imprint. I had thought first of mining Delmer Powys Plebus Gwent again, using “Del Mer”–a sort of mix of Spanish and French (Del=from the, Mer=Sea). Then I thought, Nah, even I would just say FUDD. 🙂
So I thought ‘Seas’ on the Moon would be “maria”–but everyone would just say the name Maria. So then the word Marea came to mind. It means “tide”. And that seemed okay.
Tlatoa had always been my plan for a Chicano poetry imprint. I used it on our old site. Tlatoa is the Nahuatl word meaning “speak”.
The reason for different imprints is to give each type of book a sort of different look, independent of one another. Our Space: 1999 novels are modelled on the look of the 70s books–image on the bottom, Eagle/logo/title/author on the top. If you compare that to The House Between soundtrack, you can see the style of the release is very different.
And perhaps a different home too. The main Powys page currently has all our releases pictured. Once we build individual pages for each imprint, we’ll feature only those books published under that imprint.

So glad to see new Space 1999 novels and the continuation of the series in a well written, true to characterization way…how will I learn if there will be new ones coming? Any in 2010-11 coming up? I purchased all 3 released last year just in the past month, finished them all and would love to have something to look forward to!!!
Thanks again for bringing these stories to us.September 6, 2010 at 2:36 pm #1200Patricia SokolParticipantWelcome to the board. It’s a little quiet right now, but don’t let that stop you from posting.
There were actually 4 books released recently. Whichever one you missed, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it when you get it.
